Hi Russell, and welcome to WikiTree!

Let me reiterate what Rick said: Start with a SMALL gedcom. This will help you to learn the Gedcompare process. I use FTM also, and making a partial gedcom was easy. Last gedcom I imported was 18 people, a small group of my wife’s ancestors.

You can upload a gedcom file to Wikitree, so if you can find some way of converting it to a gedcom then that should work. What is *FTW?

FTW file is likely a Family Tree Maker file. Russell, if you have Family Tree Maker software, you should be able to export a GEDCOM file. If you plan to do this, I'd suggest starting with a small file of your nearest relatives to use with the WikiTree GEDCOMpare process.
