I don't know but I do not think James Brooke is a close relative. The Brooke family is very extensive; some entered the East India Company very early in the 17th century while some moved to northern Ireland and others (my mother's branch) emigrated to the Maryland Colony in 1650. All of them seemed to have made their mark as lawyers, doctors and churchmen. My grandfather had correspondence with Charles Vyner Brooke and the last Rajah was very aware that a branch of the family had emigrated to America.
