change maiden name without joining the trusted list

Question

I have been through a lot of unsourced profiles where the maiden name is unknown which I can not change as there is a profile manager

I think it would be a really good idea to be able to change the maiden name to the unlocked profiles to reduce the Unknown Profile list

In order to change the Last Name at Birth (LNAB), you have to either be on the Trusted List or be the Profile Manager.

I disagree... I think the current requirement makes the process intentionally more difficult so that renaming doesn't happen more often on a whim.

Renaming is the same as merging and adds URL redirects, which can cause undue strain on the server when overused.

The ability for anyone to change an LNAB without first consulting with the profile manager could lead to many conflict situations and many changes back and forth. Having the current restriction on LNAB changes is the better approach. If you are finding maiden names for unsourced profiles that is good work. You can tell the profile manager about it by putting a comment with the suggested name and the source information.
