M1b1 mitochondrial DNA in Nova Scotia

I have determined a woman born on the Nova Scotia shore of the Northumberland Strait in 1782 had the relatively unusual haplogroup M1b1 mitochondrial DNA.  She was probably a child of the 1772 Montbeliard Huguenot settlers of Tatamagouche, but she may have been a daughter of an Acadian English historians identify as Ledurney.  I'm hoping for information from individuals with M1b1 mitochondrial DNA who can trace their maternal ancestry to Nova Scotia.

Hi, I’m new here. I recently took a DNA test and I have mtDNA m1b1 and I’m 98% European with 2% Native American DNA. My maternal ancestry has been traced back to eastern USA but my family hasn’t kept great tabs on things so it’s unknown if that is the native side or just European settlers. Interesting stuff either way
Thank you for replying, Alyssa.  Information I have gathered to date suggests my ancestors with M1b1 mitochondrial DNA were Acadian Portuguese descended from the Moorish occupation of the Iberian Peninsula.  The family sheltered with the Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq to avoid the Acadian expulsion.  My 3G-grandmother returned to the rural European community after the British government lost interest in the expulsion, but some of her siblings remained with the Mi'kmaq.  There is a fairly significant pool of haplogroup M1b1 mitochondrial DNA on the Iberian Peninsula, so I suggest you consider the Portuguese whaling community of coastal Massachusetts in addition to the Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq as you investigate the maternal branch of your family tree.

Not yet. I'm working to connect her to WikiTree and link her mitochondrial DNA test data.

Please add the testee to mitoYDNA.org

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:MtDNA_instructions_for_mitoYDNA

and then add their mitoYDNA ID to their WikiTree profile.  I’m willing to help.

Thank you.
