Trying to trace my Birth mother Agnes Teresa McIntyre (nee) McDonagh

Hello there,

I'm trying to trace my birth mother Agnes Teresa McIntyre (nee) McDonagh. She married my father Alexander McIntyre in Glasgow in 1965 and had two children, Mary Alexandrina born 3/1966 and me, Robert Alexander 5/1967. We were left as children at Deepdale Hospital, Preston Lancashire in 1967 and eventually adopted into different families. I believe my parents were divorced in 1980. I can find no trace of her before she married my father (now deceased (1991)) and would like to know more of where she was born and where my grandparents on my mother's side were born. I can only find their marriage certificate, but there is no clue as to where she was born and I'm now working on the assumption she was born in Ireland to an Irish traveling family.

If anyone can help me trace my mother's lineage back or can guide me to information where I can find this information, then that would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Alex

The marriage record for Alexander McIntyre and Agnes Teresa McDonagh is on the Scotland's People site ref 644/6 663. You can order a copy of the record which might have more information including the parents of the couple.

There is also a Wales and England record of death for an Agnes Teresa McDonagh b.19 December 1943  died Lambeth, London, England 1985. Possible that she went by maiden name after the divorce.
Hi Bill, Many thanks for getting back to me. I have no other information on my parent's marriage certificate (5/11/1965) as to her place of birth. I have a copy of both their marriage and divorce certificates and unfortunately, that's where I grind to a halt. I know she was born in 1947, but have no idea where!

Regards

Alex
This might not lead anywhere but given its uniqueness  the bride's forename demands some attention

In 1947 at Glasgow Neil Joseph McDonagh married Alexandrina Lyle

I would suggest that you take the leap and join Wikitree and post all the information you have including any DNA tests (preferably GEDmatch). There are some helpful and talented folks here but they need all the available details.
Thanks for this Bill. I'll have a deeper look tomorrow.

Rgds Alex
Hello, as far as I can find, my mother was born in 1947. I have managed to find one possible match but the maiden name of my mother's mother in this is Walsh and not Lyle. I don't think either is correct. This is so frustrating!

I have still not managed to find any record in the UK of her birth which leads me to believe that she was born in Ireland. If I could only find her father's name and place of birth then I can continue my search!
Hi Bill, as far as I know she was born in 1947.
UPDATE: Grandparents names on mothers side are Patrick McDonagh and Mary Gilheany

Hello Alex, McDonagh is an Irish “Traveler “ surname. I recall them located around the Derry / Donegal border area. The McDonaghs were feuding with the “Stokes” family, when I was a child. Later in life I met McDonaghs in Cheetham Hill, North Manchester, England. A good resource for you, and it’s free to use is ; irishgenealogy.ie. Good luck with your research Robert. Kind regards, Hugh Macintyre
