Do you have any other info - family members? Location in MA?

Thanks.  All I know is that he ran away from home in Massachusetts at 15  (1848ish?) and possibly changed his name.  I believe he met his future wife when he was the purser on her ship when she came over from Ireland (the family story is that this was around 1849) and married her (Mary Ann Walker) in New Orleans in 1855.  (She married another sailor on the ship first though.)  Marriage records show no useful detail.  Children were Mary Ann, Juliane, Ellen Mary, Margaret, William, possibly James, Catherine and Joseph.  Peter died 1896 but sometime before this, probably the 1870s, there was apparently an inheritance in Massachusetts to sort out and two brothers came to see him.  Otherwise he refused to even speak about his family.  Census records say he was born Boston 1833, as were his parents, but an archivist in Boston once told my mother people from other towns would say 'Boston' because they figured you may have heard of it.  Family story says the Lamb name used to be O'Loane but was changed in Ireland before the family emigrated.  (Not sure if this has any bearing but worth mentioning.)  I am really keen to find out where Peter came from and who his people were.

I have no new info about Peter Lamb but this person on ancestry states that

but if you contact the Archdiocese of New Orleans and give them the date and the name of the priest, they could probably tell you what church the marriage took place. The church record may give you their parent's names. Here is the link to the Archdiocese of New Orleans Archives, which has a link on the left side of the page for a form that you can print out and fill out to order the church marriage record by mail.

Thanks, Betty.  We did that but what came back was pretty unhelpful: parents' names left blank.
Thanks again for all of these, Betty.  There's nothing around 1890, is there?  Re-reading the notes written about it, they talk about the inheritance visit from the brothers being 1870s in one part of the letter and around 1890 in another.  (Ah, the perils of oral history.)
