I wanted to share this family photo of Elmer Hendrickson with the community. It's both a source and photo... How exciting to have received such a historical confirmation of dear Elmer's service to the United States.

Great photo! My great uncle James was in the 339th, so they served in the same area. Uncle James lost his life there. Nice to read this article, since it gives me a little more background about what they were doing "over there."

What a hero Elmer Hendrickson was. And so was Natalie Trott's uncle James, who lost his life.

The 337th fought some very heated and bloody battles, and losing a quarter of your men in a single battle would make most companies retreat, but the 337th went right back and fought a 72 hour battle.

How fortunate that Elmer lived to tell his story, and how lucky for you to have the news article and picture of Elmer. What a treasure.

Thank you for sharing Elmer's story and picture with your WikiTree family.

God Bless

Thank you Susan, for selecting my answer! laugh

Thank you fir the short summary of your great uncle James.I'm glad you found the article to be of some use. I have more coming from my aunt. I'm glad to have been able to share life with him. I recall sitting in his apartment looking at his awards in a tin. From that I began creating decorative tins.
