I am having problems reconciling James Daniel Nesmith Jr.'s spousal relations. He had two wives, both named Elizabeth. One was born 31 January 1774 in St. George Parish, Georgia. The other I have no birth date or birth location. She was married to JDN on 25 Nov 1832 in Screven County after the death of his first wife. I have seen a lot of conflicting information about the wives last name without any true source to prove which one is which. My source book states: Of Elizabeth, +1W, first wife of James, we know no more than is shown above. Of Elizabeth, +1W2, second wife of James, we find in the Bulloch County census of 1850 that she is living with her son, Sovereign I. Hendley (Handley) and his wife, Margaret Nessmith, daughter of John Haymon Nessmith, + 1-2.
The problem is most people are identifying Hendley as the first wife. I have census sources that say she is the second.
