Ruth or Rose Bond?

Benjamin Colton (1722-1808) married a Rose/Ruth Bond on August 15, 1778 in Wilbraham, Hampden, Massachusetts, as his 2nd wife.

She is sometimes listed as Rose Bond or Ruth Bond or Mrs. Bond.  Don't know if Bond was a married name or birth name.  Sometimes they seem to be the same person and sometime separate.

I have a dob of 1738 but have also seen 1727.

Source information is sparse to say the least - the only primary source I have found is

1  A Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Quartermaster George Colton pg 10

2. "Massachusetts Marriages, 1695-1910," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V589-CTT : 9 February 2018), Benjamin Colton and Rose Bond, 15 Aug 1778; citing reference ; FHL microfilm 904,738, 904,739, 14,765.

Is it possible for someone to access the actual microfilm?  Could really use some help here  Thank you!

The Massachusetts records are not digitized at FamilySearch, although they are extracted (as you know), but if you go to the FamilySearch catalog, and look up the film number, it will tell you what FHC has the microfilm. Hopefully, one is close to where you live.

The American Ancestors database has:

BOND    Wid. Rose

Benjamin Colton      Int. 15 Aug 1778

Wilbraham, Hampden, Mass

Massachsetts Vital Records, Wilbraham, Vol. 1  p.134

Massachusetts: Vital Records, 1621-1850 (Online Database: AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2001-2016).

This is a transcript, not an image, but it looks like Bond was probably a married name since she’s listed as a widow.

The volume for Brimfield records the marriage of Edward Bond  and Rose Blashfield Nov, 29, 1759  (p. 168)

The baptism of an infant Rose Bond in 1775 (p. 26)

And the death of Edward in 1776 (p. 269)

Thank you Kathie!  This is also a website I was not familiar with!

With a little more research and a leap of faith I think we have the correct info.  How sure must I be?
americanancestors.org is a subscription site; however, the same Massachusetts vital records can be found at the Massachusetts Vital Records Project, a free site:

http://ma-vitalrecords.org/MA/Hampden/Brimfield/Images/Brimfield_M168.shtml (for the Edward Bond and Rose Blashfield marriage), and

http://ma-vitalrecords.org/MA/Hampden/Brimfield/Images/Brimfield_B026.shtml (for the Rose Bond birth)
thank you!
Can you find the child Rose with Rose and Benjamin?  Maybe on a marriage bond or record?  Or did Benjamin name her in a will?  That would be the  proof you need.  I think it’s highly likely that Rose Blashfield is the right woman, but I would at least note in the bio that she’s probable, not proven.
