does the name clendenning come from "clan Denning" in Scotland?

No it comes from the ancient name glendowyn before that it was glendower.If you look up clan douglas,we are a sept(part of ) clan douglas and you will see that our last name is spelled differently but they are all the same .I am finding out that depending where in the world they went,it was either mispelt or the last part was changed .glendenning and the derivatives are also from glendowyn.

Our family name goes way back in scotland,during the ulster plantation some of them went to ireland.

If you cant find it spelt one way try another this is found out just recently!

my last name in the census is supposedly clenenny,yet when i looked at the cednsus,i found it was clendenning,whoever ranscribed it spelt it wrong so look closely
