Help confirming information about my great-grandfather?

Question

Can anyone help me confirm my purported great-grandfather's information? My grandfather was John Williams, and his parents, according to the 1920 Census, were Jessie and Ollie M Williams (which matches what I know) and his siblings as Archa, George, and Fred. Other census records for his father, Jessie, confirm these.

All of the information I can find on my great-grandfather, Jessie Williams, seems to indicate that he was born to one man (Francis J Fishman) and took the name of another (Edwin Williams), however there's a THIRD man that I can't seem to explain at all, and I don't know which of the records is correct now.

In a different 1910 census (not the one I linked to), there's a Josie Williams who is shown as the son of a William Williams and his wife as Ollia May Williams. However, he's known to have lived in Guthrie Oklahoma and that's where he married my great-grandmother... And this census is in Guthrie Oklahoma.

I can't seem to find this record on FamilySearch, but I'll upload a screenshot of it from Ancestry to the profile below.

Just checked the 1910 Census of Jessie Williams with Wife and Father William Williams, birthplace for Jessie says unknown? but his Dad is there? His Father William Williams all say Unknown too

Well, I don't think Jesse Fishman, aka Jesse Willimas born in Kansas and living with his mother and stepfather in 1910 is your great-grandfather.

The second 1910 census showing him in Guthrie with your great-grandmother is clearly the correct record for him.

On the marriage record, his age is listed as 27. That means he was born about 1880 and would have been 30 in 1910, not 20 as Jesse (Fishman) Williams is.

Thank you for all of this information. I'll look all of this over. I guess it's possible I have the wrong Jesse. However I'm certain at least one of them DID have a name change - it's just the question of was it someone that I am related to, or not? Maybe it'll help someone else, at least.

Okay, Janette, 

I have found additional info that proves definitively that the son of Eleanor M Hand is not the man who married Ollie M Vesper.

Jesse Eugene Carter was born to Eleanor Hand and Thomas Newton Carter. In his adult life, he went by his birth name rather than either Fishman or Williams (the names of his two stepfathers). He may have been born in Wisconsin (where his parents married and his mother later married Fishman), but he lived and died in Illinois and later records give Illinois as his birthplace. Earlier records indicate Kansas.  Attaching docs.
