Parents Changed - No Documentation

Two profiles I created were changed to different last names at birth but without any supporting documentation except "Family Records". In addition I was not asked about this change.  Because I am fairly new to Wikitree and have been hand entering and trying to adhere to the courtesy and proof restrictions, I find this to be a bit forward.

The profiles are now Jacobus-271 and VanderCook-50.

Please tell me the best way to handle this.

Hi Deb,

I can see you created https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jacobussen-1 in August 2017, the profiles aren’t merged, but could it be that you’ve had a request from the profile of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jacobus-271 to merge?

You also have with Annaetje a husband Machiel https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Van_der_Coek-1, Jacobus-271’s husband is https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vandercook-50.

You may want to contact the two profile managers to see if yours are duplicate profiles or a different family.

No one has merged them yet, maybe you were seeing a suggested merge page?

Does that help,

Lizzie

Sorry, I left out part of the problem.

The parents were changed for another profile I created for Pieter Cook (Cook-20793).
No requests to merge, just changed parents.
Ahh, ok, I see, rather than following the merging process, The profile manager has removed your profiles as Pieters parents and added his own profiles as parents.

Yes, I would say this is a bit naughty as collaboration is needed in cases like this. He shouldn’t really have removed your profiles as parents without consulting with you, especially as your parents aren’t wrong, in fact they are probably the same and need a merge.

Have you tried messaging him?
Not yet.  I had to step back and think about it.

The problem though is there is no documentation for Peter being a son of Michael Johannes VanderCook.

I can message the VanderCook-50 manager and ask though.
Thank you, Lizzie.

Looks like we may have duplicate profiles here because the surnames are spelled differently.

This profile was created by Carl Miller.

The Vandercook-50 profile no longer exists

Great minds ;-) Vamdercook-50 does still exist though, see my response & link above :-)

I think Deb is seeing match suggestions?
OK forget what I said and go with what Lizzie wrote!!  LOL .
OK the first thing to decide is what was the correct spelling at birth and what evidence was there for that spelling...

Collaboration will be required.

I'm gonna stay out of this now.
Forget what I said too, please don’t stay out lol, it sounds like a fairly new member may need guidance if you see Debs clarity provided above?  The profile manager that has disconnected Debs profile of Pieter from his parents in favour of his own duplicate parents is quite new, think maybe some kindly guidance may be needed in this case? Greeters Project maybe?
Thank you, Roynne.
