Why are orphan records locked?

Shouldn't orphan records be unlocked?  There are quite a few categories on the spreadsheet this week that have locked orphan records.  We shouldn't have to claim a profile, just so the editing can be done on a record with a death date!   

Error 731 Separators in Preferred Name has mainly locked profiles.  Some say orphan for manager, others have no name.  I thought this was only supposed to be for Orphan profiles this week.

Some with no Manager name do have a name when you look at the profile, but it is locked.  There might be a problem when the manager name has an error, like an invalid character before the 1st name, which the system may think is an orphan.   One example is Alagic-19 that has a PM name but it is included in the list of records for this week's Orphan challenge

If an orphan record is for a living person, they will be locked. Living takes precedence over other things.

As I stated, many have death dates

As far as those that are listed as Orphan's but have managers someone could have adopted them since the last data dump and the list for the Data Doctors is only updated once a week. If I adopted a profile on Monday it would show on the list as an Orphan, my name as manager will not change on the list until next Monday but will show up on the profile instantly.
