Nov/Dec 2018 Biography Builders - Families with 10 children

Sorry for the delay in starting this month. Just a little distracted.

This month’s theme is families with 10 children, or more. One or both parents are eligible. And if one, or more, of the children also had 10 children, WOW.

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • One of the suggestions was siblings. I think this takes up real estate.
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories/Projects.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page, linked below.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

Other sources like The Catholic Encyclopaedia though out of date still covers their biographies fairly acceptably.

Please answer below the name of the Pope whose profile you have chosen.

I think you forgot to update your post???

OOPS.
Should we do bios just for the parents of the ten+ kids or bios for the parents AND for each of the children? My husband has a huge family with several generations having 10+ kids. This might be a busy bio-writing month for me! :D
Traci,

Parents (if they are both the parents of 10 or more) only. If any of the children have 10 or more, do them also, if you can.

Bob

If you do a bio with sources for 10 or more children and DO NOT make the 10+ children's profiles, please add [[Category:Needs Profiles Created]] to the top of it to signify it contains info to build more profiles.

oh my, if I were to try to keep track of how many I do that qualify, I'd be here all day.  But have fun all.  laugh

Just did my first with 10 children--Gideon Long. Added a profile for one of the ten: Gideon Long (Jr.). Now tell me if answering here and adding category suggested by Steve is all I need to record.

I know I have more; will look.

Marj,

The 10 children challenge is over. New challenges start on the 15th of the month. The current one, Dec/Jan, is for people who died in December.

Exactly 10 children or families with 10 or more children?

by SJ Baty G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
10 or more, exactly. LOL

1. Reinhold Abendschon [Abendschon-9] - 14 kids! He's been a work in progress for a while, I just did some polishing up on it and will finish it this week.  As it stands now, it is genealogically defined.

I've been working on a couple who had 8 children...of the 6 surviving children, three went on to have large families - one had 11, and two had 8 each!

1) Robert Edward Phillpott had 11 children. His daughter Mary Ann had 9 from her marriage - so close! Added census information.Genealogically defined

2) his wife Mary Ann Ford added census information, Genealogically defined

This has been a very interesting family to work on, including a grand niece who was a bigamist, and a niece who was a madam in a brothel (her husband was running it)!

3) I'm going to try to add a bit more to Edward Smith who had 10 children . Tabulated census info. created profiles for children. Genealogically defined

and his wife

4) Mary Solley Added census info. Genealogically defined

and their daughter

5) Sarah Smith who also had 10 children - added profiles for children and husband, tabulated census details

6) John Kemp - added marriage, list of children, census, burial, categories and research notes explaining how I worked out the most probable parents

and another daughter

7) Mary Smith who had at least 10 children. Added census and genealogically defined - added profiles for husband and children

8) John Sutton husband of Mary Smith - Added baptism, marriage, death & census and list of children and genealogically defined

These next two I've pretty much done to death ...if anyone has any ideas on what I can do to improve or add to them (I'm looking at adding DNA data) please let  me know

9) John Mitchell  added transcript of Army Discharge documentation, added DNA research

and his wife

10) Harriet Shaw who had 12 children and their son

11) James Henry Mitchell  added extra photo, added DNA research

and his wife

12) Jane Rufus  who had 10 children - tabulated census details

 and their son

13) James Douglas Mitchell who had 13 children - added UK census & profiles for children

14) William Thomas Curnick and his wife

15) Emma Morgan

who had 10 children and one adopted child

n.b. William Thomas was himself one of 13 children, but I don't think I can do any more to his parent's profiles

I've got a couple of possibilities in my family to start off with - my great grandmother had eleven (granddad had an extra one to make twelve).  The only full daughter had ten kids.

i think i'll do some in my family tree. My grandparents had 10 kids. and quite a few of the generations above it. Catholic families were expected to procreate. When a women wasn't pregnant after having had a child more than two years before and still in her childbearing years, the local priest would pop up to ask why.

A lot of them married quite late  (late twenties, early 30's) just to keep the families smaller. They still managed to get large families.
