unlisted profile merging

How or who will identify merges of unlisted profiles of the same person. Put another way how does a new member find if he or she is already entered on WikiTree. How are these 2 same profiles going to get merged?

In a case where I see a profile which is unlisted (or even just Private), I send a private message to the profile manager, asking something like, "Is the Ferdinand Grubstake who was born in Spuzzum, British Columbia in 1952 and married Grizella Smith-Smythe-Smith?"

Usually, it's not the same person, even if the name and birth years match (I'm amazed at how even really unusual names can end up being duplicated in different countries), but of course it's still worth checking.

But unlisted means nobody can see it but the originator. So if you have two people and they add the same person, how do they see each other? They can not!
They can contact us at info at wikitree.com and we can look into it.
So everybody who adds a profile that is unlisted has to contact info at wikitree.com. I don't think that's going to happen. It seems to me that WikiTree has a fundamental problem here. It needs a system bot. to trawl through all unlisted profiles to identify likely candidates and issue the managers a suggestion. Do new members get prompted that they are already listed, again I don't think so?

J, every time I go to add a new profile, once I enter the name and birthdate, a list of possible matches pops up for me to check through before actually creating the profile I set out to create. So if I were adding somebody living, and a potential match comes up which is unlisted, that is the point at which I investigate further.

For example, let's take Kevin Bacon, who used to be one of our connection finder profiles. Let's say somebody didn't realise that he already has a profile, and went to create a new one. As soon as they entered his name and birthdate, they should get a list of matches including Bacon-2568, which is his profile. If they went to that profile, they would see:

This anonymous profile represents a living person with the surname Bacon born in the 1950s.

Information on Unlisted profiles can only be viewed by friends and family members on the Trusted List. Send a Trusted List request.

To ask a question, send a private message to the profile manager, Notables Project WikiTree.

Now, granted, that doesn't give a lot of information, just the last name and birth decade, but since it came up as a potential match for Kevin Bacon, that would be a sign that this mystery profile is at least potentially for cousin Kevin. And, from that screen, the person trying to add a duplicate record for cousin Kevin can either ask to be put on the Trusted List for that profile, or send a private message to the profile manager asking if this is actually a profile for the Kevin Bacon they have in mind.

That seems to cover things, thanks for your time.
