I love this photo. To me she looks intent, yet with a flash of humor in her eyes and mouth.  And I agree with Susan, the blouse is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

I think sepia photos are beautiful and this one is certainly that.  She is absolutely gorgeous and she took great pains to make sure she was so.  I love her hair style, though you cannot see a "chignon"  I am sure it is there.  I would suspect the short hair style during that time was not likely.  Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful lady with us.

There's a notable difference between Emmaline's right and left sides of her face.  The solemnity on the left side of Emmaline's face hints at hardships and challenges faced, in contrast with the bemusement revealed in her eyes and mouth.  Emmaline's expression suggests that here is a strong, pragmatic woman who is confident in her ability to handle situations as they arise, and accustomed to rising above circumstances.
