I am looking for information on George (Lemuel) Wilkes.born 1864 Illinois. His father William Bedford Brown . He was a confederate soldier 1861-1865.He served in the 49th Regiment on the Alabama Confederate Army. A relation(l think) Bedford B Wilkes also served in the World War 1 draft for Kansas,1917. I believe some relatives are buried in the Wilkes Cemetery, Painter, Alabama.

Hiya Robin,

Welcome to wikitree. Is this person on Wikitree. If so would you post a link so we can get it added to the profile. Often times there is information within the profile that can help searchers find the correct information. Also looks like you're asking for information on multiple people which is fine just need some clarification yes

Have you tried a search on FamilySearch.org ?  Its free to join.

I did a quick search there and found an 1870 census  https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3AGeroge~%20%2Bsurname%3AWilkes~%20%2Bbirth_place%3A%22Illinois%2C%20USA%22~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1864-1864~

Good luck!

Wilkes dates back to England. It seems to be spelt Wilks, Wilkes, Wilkey, etc. George was my G/G/ Grandfather. There is a South Australian connection which l am trying to place . John Wilkes,M.P,Boston was on the Original Souh  Australian Company in England formed in 1834. South Australia was the only State formed by free Settlers.Regards, RobinRobinson.
