It does appear that he is wearing glasses. He was 87 years old when he died, had been a prisoner at Fort Niagara when it was seized by the British during War of 1812, and was the first settler in Niagara County NY when he built a cabin a few miles from the fort on the edge of Lake Ontario. I am trying to pinpoint his parents, family Bible says born 1768 in Pennsylvania and he moved to Virginia at age 3. Does not say anything about his parents or why he was sent to Virginia. I suspect he was born into a Quaker family but he became a soldier early in life so probably left the Quaker faith early. He attended with military honors the body of George Washington to the grave Dec 14 1799 at Mt Vernon when he was 31 and I believe he settled in Niagara County NY in 1801. He was unmarried but married Mary Ann Brown in NY, the daughter ofThomas and Hannah Brown who settled in Niagara somewhere around 1803 from New Jersey.
