Cheryle Ryan-6970 shows DNA test completed. It was downloaded from GEDCOM over a year ago. The test number and member name is not recorded. There is no way to compare with other DNA tests. The test comes from Ancestry.com I went to GEDCOM site and it revealed two different numbers, but there is no place to enter either one. cheryanbmw@gmail.com

Hi Robert,

I'd suggest removing the email address from your G2G post, since this is a public forum, especially if it is not your own email address.

It appears that the Ancestry.com member name and a GEDmatch ID weren't added when the AncestryDNA test was added to the WikiTree profile. If you haven't already done so, you may want to send a private message to the WikiTree member requesting more information.

If I understand correctly, you may have found a corresponding GEDmatch ID at GEDmatch that represents the unidentified Ancestry.com test that was entered on WikiTree. If that's the case, you should be able to use the GEDmatch ID to do a 1:1 comparison on the GEDmatch site, or use the GEDmatch ID in any of the other tools there to which you have access. But I'd still suggest contacting the WikiTree member for clarification.

Test info is optional and WikiTree members are not required to enter it.

I agree that it makes DNA testing less useful, but members are not required to enter it.

Dennis; we are attempting to us the DNA to the optimal use, but we cannot get the system to work.

Thank you Bob Tiffner
In that case, login to Chereyle's profile and on her Wiki-ID menu, choose "DNA", then click the DNA tab.

From there, you can edit the entered test(s) and add in the ID info as necessary

Thanks Rick; I did not reveal that Cheryle is my spouse so I do have her information. I have tried to start over with Ancestry.com and reload into GEDCOM, hence  the two different Gedmatch IDs. This only compounded the problem. Cheryle great-grand father was illegitimate and we are trying to follow that line further back. There are no DNA matches in her tree to work from. Is this because of the glitch or are there not any?

Thank you for your consideration; Bob Tiffner

If noone in her biological family has done any DNA testing then there is not much else you can do - for now.

DNA testing is a long term investment. There may be no results now because noone has tested, but in another 5 or 10 years, perhaps a whole generation of youngsters may start doing DNA tests to try and find their families and Cheryls DNA will get tons of hits.

I have been extremely lucky so far that a number of people from my mothers biological family have already done DNA tests so I was able to finally ascertain who my mothers biological family were - my mother was adopted out.

My fathers family on the other hand is very slow. So far I have only found 2 people on his side who have tested (that I know of) and it is a good thing I am not actually looking for my dads family!! The Genealogical records and his ancestry are all very well documented.
be aware, that WikiTree doesn't do any DNA matching. Instead, it walks up and down the currently connected tree and lists any other WikiTreers who have also identified as having been tested.

Any changes to those connection will take at least 24 hours for the database indexes to be updated.
Does the DNA code with your test not matter if you have one or not? So she does not have Code number or a ID. I know who she is and her code number but haven place to enter them.

I'm not sure I understand your question.

WikiTree doesn't know or care about your actual DNA test data. You simply fill out a form that says you took a test, and with which company, then you can optionally add that company's ID for your test. And if you've optionally uploaded your data to Gedmatch, then you can also include that account ID too.

You have to be logged into WikiTree as the person for whom you are updating test info, and on their profile.
