The Canada Project coordinates the activities of WikiTreers who have Canadian ancestry and/or would like to improve Canadian profiles.

The goal of the Canada project is to add and improve profiles of Canadians and people related to Canadian history. Project members contribute in a variety of ways, through working on family groupings, cleaning up profiles, adding sources, merging duplicates and ensuring that the profiles reach the best standard possible. They also offer assistance to others working on Canadian profiles wherever possible.

If you would like to join the project we would love to have you.

Is there a particular geographic area or areas that interests you? We have teams set up for each province.

Please post an answer below including your research interests and what you would like to work on.

Make sure to click the ANSWER button, rather than the comments, so we are sure to see your request!

Sure Jody.

I'll sign you up. Welcome to Canada Project.
Anything in particular we should tag when we have someone born in Canada? Specific region tags? I see the categories to add but I don't see project tags in regard to if some ancestor is born there to put on profiles.
hi Daniel,

Project tags don't go on every profile that lived in an area.  Usually only profiles managed by a project will get that project's tag on it.

Unless you mean stickers of course.  Not quite the same thing.

There are also stickers for migrants, from X place to y place, with flags.

Normally we put categories on profiles, location categories are the most frequently used.
Go figure your name is Danielle. :)

Yes I am a bit newer here so the term 'tag' I meant more as a sticker like when someone was born in Ireland, etc...

I'll look for the Canada sticker to add, sorry for the confusion, thank you.

hehehe, great people named Daniel/Danielle  wink

There are also some for provinces, you'll have to check around to find them, haven't much used them myself.

There is a Canada sticker which shows "...lived in Canada" That sticker is {{Canada Sticker}}

You can also modify the sticker to {{Canada Sticker|location=Edmonton, Alberta, Canada}} which will will give you "...lived in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada"

Always shows the Canadian flag though - there is no allowance for a provincial flag as the sticker now stands.
I would love to help. I have Métis and French Canadian ancestry on maternal side, and early Vancouver Island settlers on my paternal side

As a member of the Quebecois project and the filles du roi project, I think it's a bit redundant for me to join the Quebec team. Would love to help elsewhere, perhaps in western canada.

I like writing neat biographies and/or cleaning up existing biographies. I like finding images as well.

Any way i can help, shout me out!

You can join the Quebec Team if you wish. Quebecois Project is associated with us, but a completely different project. It is for people who lived in New France before the conquest. Quebec Team is for everything since the British conquest of New France.

I have added you to the Canada project. Let me know if you want to join Quebec Team.
Good to know, I'd love to be in the Quebec team then, however I would also be interested in the manitoba one, is there any way I could be in both?
Yes, sure! I'll add you to both.

Welcome to the project!

Hello!

I am an Albertan working on Lowry family's from Canada.  Other names include DeGraff Silzer Kerik Bull Bryant and extend from there. Roots are found all across the Nation especially the Lowry tribe.

I  love the hunt and finding sources.  A bit stuck on my Lowry's though cause the old timer from 1847 stated he didn't know his parents.

I am open to helping just about anywhere!

I would like t o. Join the Canadian project as my maternal grandparents were from Carleton County-Kinburn,March and Fitzroy.  I would like to fin out how to find documents for the deed of my greatgranfather’s farm. My family always went by their middle name and my brick wall is Oliver Riddle/Riddle.  I have a copy of a geological study of the area of his farm and this report says that a John Riddle bought thr property but I don’t know where that information came from as I have books that refer to him as Oliver.  I am hoping to find out how to find the deed

Thank you so much

Jacques Nicolas LePrince ( Prince-29) is my 6th Great-Grandfather. He immigrated from Normandie ( Normandy ) France in 1666 and settled in the Port Royal Area. He is an Acadian.  I would love to find more information about my more recent Canadian  Relatives and about the Early History of Canada. My Prince Ancestors have been in Canada for several Generations and many returned there after the Acadian Expulsion.
by Crystal Tyrrell G2G6 (7.8k points)

Happy to add you to the Canada project. Is there a particular geographic area where your ancestors lived, so that I can add you to a team?

And do you know that there was also an Acadia Project on WikiTree? You might be interested in that as well.

Hello Dave,

Thank You So Much. My 6th Great Grandfather Jacques Nicholas ( Nicolas ) Le Prince  Arrived in Quebec in 1665, according to the U S and Canada Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s -1900s. He married Marguerite Hebert  ,( born 1652 in Port Royal, New Brunswick )between 1670 and 1677, ( sources vary ) in Port Royal, Nova Scotia.

According to the Quebec Genealogical Dictionary of Canadian Families ( Tanguay Collection ) 1608-1890  " soldat de la garrison s a  burial date wasFeb. 5th, 1964 in " Laprarie Trouve Gele.. "    He is also mentioned in The Good Regiment: The Carignan-Saliteres Regiment in Canada , 1665-1668 by Jack Verney. So I am Assuming he Arrived in Canada as part of the French Military and decided to stay.

I know the majority of my Prince Ancestors were Acadian and were primarily in the Port Royal -Nova Scotia Area.

I am aware of the Acadia Project here as well. I'm not sure if I've joined it yet.
Welcome Crystal. I'll add you to the Canada project, Quebec Team. That covers everything since the English conquest in the 1700's. You can contact the Quebecois Project for ancestors before that.
Thank You So Much, Dave.  I Appreciate the add.

Have a Great Weekend.

I would like to join the Canada project.  I realize I failed to follow instructions and left the above comment instead of add an answer.  winksmiley I am researching Nova Scotia, in search of documents and or census info on the Pereau/Pero/Pereault and Deojay/Dojay family.  Benjamin and Mary were my 2nd great grandparents.  I have been lead to believe that either one their family genealogy's includes an Native American connection.  (Kickapoo)?

Welcome Donna. I'll add you to our Canada project Nova Scotia Team.
Thank you very much.

I recently entered a GEDCOM file on the Richard Harney family who immigrated from Clonmel, Tipperary to Halifax, Canada.  I also have a written genealogy including bios and references.  If someone wants to enter this info into wikitree, I am willing to forward a copy.

I am doing a one name study of the Harney family worldwide, so am trying to get some of this information into wikitree. I have so much info it is over-whelming for me to enter it all person by person.  If someone wants to volunteer to enter this one branch of the family, I will be very grateful.

I'd love to join the project. I have several sets of Irish immigrants to Canada in my ancestry, largely clustered around Ottawa (the McDermotts) and the Miramichi in New Brunswick (the Doyles, Flynns, Deans, and possibly the Powers).

I would like to join the Ontario project and the Nova Scotia project.  My grandparents and earlier ancestors were from Hastings and Prince Edward counties.  We have a "Lowery" mystery and an "Ellis" mystery, the latter of which originated in Nova Scotia.

Hi Shannon, welcome to the project. I will add you to the Ontario and Nova Scotia Teams.

I would like to join the Canada project for Ontario and the Quebecois project. I have a lot of information that I have contributed already on Wikitree about my French Métis ancestors. Surnames are Lemire, Marsolet, Gonneville and Granville. Let me know what you would like me to do.

Yes I would like to join.  Earlier this week a few Wonderful Wikitreers helped me cover about 400 years of ancestors in Quebec all the way to Louis Hebret and Marie Rollet, my maternal Grandfathers lineage. His ancestors where all from Quebec for 3 to 4 hundred years. I would like to try to give back to the community where/when I can. My maternal Grandmothers lineage is from Newfoundland ( and maybe Nova Scotia?) , who knows what else I may discover about my Canadian roots.
by John Appleby G2G6 (6.4k points)
Welcome to the Canada project. I'll add you to Quebec and Newfoundland Teams for now. If you want, I can add Nova Scotia as well.

I've been working on research related to my 6th great-grandfather Thomas Gilbert (Gilbert-646) and those of his children/grand-children who moved to New Brunswick in the aftermath of the American War for Independence. He was a loyalist and best I can tell, the only one of my ancestors who left.

He's also a Mayflower descendant and so his tree might be of interest to present day Canadians, especially if they are also descendants of his.

I'd welcome any and all assistance in finding and researching the Gilberts and learning if I have any modern-day Canadian cousins. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

Feel free to add me to the New Brunswick project, if you like, but I'm not sure how much else I'll contribute outside of this family.

Blessings.
