Kimball Mystery offered for someone to solve:

Lydia Kimball 's profile says she was born 16 October 1748 in Salem, Essex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, and that her husband was Jonathan Ashby. Her parents are not named, nor is there any additonal data which help identify her. (ancestry.com profiles ascribed Jonathan's wife to two different families, without sources). The marriage record to Jonathan provides no further clues, either.

If someone is interested in solving this mystery: here are the candidates I found:

  1. Lydia Kimball, born Wenham, Oct. 3, 1748, daughter of Edmond, jr. and Elisabeth
  2. Lydia Kimball, baptized Bradford, Mar. 12, 1748-9 (so could have been born October 1748), daughter of Isaack
  3. Lydia Kembal, baptized Marblehead, 23 October 1748, daughter of Thomas and Mary
  4. Lydia Kimbal, baptized Boxford, 25 December 1748, daughter of Amos.
  5. Some other Lydia not named above

Her parents are Thomas and Mary (Ingalls) Kimball. This source shows Lydia with the birth date shown in the profile:

''History of the Kimball family in America, from 1634 to 1897 : and of its ancestors the Kemballs or Kemboldes of England; with an account of the Kembles of Boston, Massachusetts'' by Leonard Allison Morrison

She was baptized in Marblehead, where her baptism appears to have been recorded as Lydia Kembal, dau of Thomas and Mary. According to this record, she was baptized Oct 23, 1748. The link goes to American Ancestors, which is a subscription site: ''Massachusetts: Vital Records, 1621-1850 (Online Database: AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2001-2016).''

I'll nitpick, just a little.smiley  The profile gives a birth date of 16 Oct, and a birth location of Salem. The Kimball Family History claims 16 Oct as a baptismal date, which conflicts with the baptismal date of 23 Oct given by church records (your Am. Ancestors citation is the same as my #3 Lydia's - I used the free version instead of theirs for ease of general access).

However, the unsourced profile is the only thing that connects the 16/23 October baptismal date of  #3 Lydia and a marriage of Lydia to Jonathan Ashby. The Kimball Fam. History does not tie the two together. Although it says that the family lived both in Salem and Marblehead, that could have been the case of any of the other Lydias, all living in the same county.

Without a source - even a published genealogy saying that Lydia, d. of Thomas and Mary, married Jonathan Ashby - I am not ready to connect them as parents to this Lydia's  profile.

Another possibility is to connect her to her apparent parents, but not to her spouse...

There are sources to support marriage, and sources to support parents, but so far, no sources seem to show that Lydia the daughter = Lydia the spouse.

It might be worth adding research notes to her profile so that the information found can be reviewed in the future if additional information comes to light.
