What proportion of the Wiki population is 24 degrees, or less, from Queen Victoria?

Wikitree advises me that I'm 24 degrees from Queen Victoria. Is this a statement true of a large proportion of the population, or should I start sending them Christmas cards?

Victoria of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland is 16 Degrees from Melanie Paul.

It was more than 20 a couple of weeks ago.

Apparently I am also 30 degrees from our member of the week Rick San Soucie which astounds me.  I clicked on the connection finder expecting zero connection at all. surprise

23 from Queen Victoria. 21 from President George Bush whose funeral is today.

I am re-astounded, if that's possible.  I actually have a 28-step connection to G. H. W. Bush.  surprise

I did not think that was even possible under 100 or more "steps".  (More like 1000-plus.)

The answer to my question is, I have concluded, very high. The reason? 42 grandchildren. Imagine Christmas.
18 for me, I guess we're peasants.
12 degrees for me!. The link seems to be via her grandfather George 111. Interesting stuff!
How do I tell how many degrees I am from Queen Victoria? I do not see her on the connections page.

.

You can use the connection finder from her page : Queen Victoria.

That was fun.  I found out I am 19 degrees from Queen Victoria, but only 17 to Henry VIII.   That checks.
Melanie, Thanks a bunch. I tried the connections and it said no connection and I am somewhere around 28 or maybe 30. SO I tried the Wikitree+ and that said Pathfinder cannot start on Private profiles without visible relations (Dolman-113)

Yeah .. well, you do need some kind of connection to the Tree for the connection finder to .. uh .. find the connections.  smiley

Thanks for the help and the explanation. Myself I think most of the Well known people is made up wrong. FOr example O want to look up the queen up to see how close that I am connected but I cannot because she is a famous person. What is the sense of having them if we cannot connect? When I joined there were like 3million or 4 million people connected. Now I just read there is 19 million. That is a big difference and I know that my tree with the profile that I manage has grown since then. There has to be some difference in how I am connected, The people here are smart and make an app for many things but we cannot make one to view connections? These men and women are impressive and I thank them for the work that they do.

I connect because I am connected to my Dad, who is connected to his Dad, and he to his Dad .. and so on.  Mostly my connections to the anchor and the profiles of the week go through my dad, granddad, great-grand, then marriages, siblings, etc.  Rarely I get a connection through my Mum.

Example — my connection (22 degrees) to Henry VIII Tudor goes up my paternal line to 3-greats grandfather, then his sister, her daughter, the daughter's husband, etc.

To Mary Pickford .. 23 degrees by way of that same 3-greats grandsire, but then to a different sister, and so on.

To the Member of the Week -- Cheryl Skordahl -- 29 degrees by way of the same 3-greats grandsire, then yet another sister, her husband, his sister .. and so on.

You can't see your connections if you are not connected.

21 degrees here. Not that exciting. I am only 18 degrees from Henry VIII. And I am 14th cousins of William and Harry. (I cannot understand why they didn’t invite me to their weddings.) :-(

20 degrees. I think it was more degrees earlier. It looks like the route is taking a different path now.

I'm 19 degrees from her!  Based on the relationships we  have in wikitree to date, she's my 10th cousin six times removed, but we probably should be closer as we are both descended from King Charles I.

Not sure how many degrees if connections by marriages are included, but apparently Queen Victoria and I are 15th cousins, twice removed. So I believe that would be 17 degrees or possibly less.

I hate to burst some royal bubbles, but a "connection by degrees" does include relationship by marriages. So even if you are connected by 30 or degrees or fewer, it does not mean that you are descended from the Queen and you are probably not even a blood relative. A distant cousin by marriage, perhaps. If you look at the generational path as a choice, you will see how many marriage relationships intervene between you and her.

Those who have a "genealogical relationship" should be related by blood, although still maybe just a distant cousin and not a descendant.

I think we all get that nibling-2. Being a rabid Republican I was initially horrified at the close proximity but I see now that my fears have been ill-placed.
LOL. Never fear, you're connected to but not descended from that royal line! Well, being anonymous, I can't really check your connections, but I assume so from your statement .
