I have finished my GEDCOMPARE on all 3,073 people I uploaded, and this took hours upon hours, but they are not showing up on Wikitree - now what?  Am I suppose to do something else?  I could not find anything about what I need to do now.

Help, as this is making me crazy!

now you have to click the add button for each one
Yes, what I am saying is that I have done all of this and it took days, but none of it is showing up on Wikitree.
There is no "add" button showing anywhere is add anyone after I compare and reject the potential match.  Where do I go from here?

Hi Davine,

WikiTree does not permit the Import of data from a GEDCOm file automatically and create a tree as many other sites and programs will.  This is a shared data site and the rule here is One Name, One Profile.  To insure there are no duplicates, you must Import the data from your file one name at a time through the GEDCOMpare process.

Take a look at this page on hints, tips and specific WikiTree Help pages to help you transfer your file to WikiTree properly.

I have looked at the help page so many times, I know it by heart, but it isn't working for me.  After I compare and reject the person, there is no way to add the add the that I can see - no add button appears.

Look at your contributions list to see the profiles you've added... I only see one listed there and it was an already existing profile that your import was merged with.

WikiTree's GedCom import is a two step process:

  1. GedCompare -- compare each of your entries to possible duplicates already existing in WikiTree
  2. Import -- after the comparison, then an Add button should appear allowing you to actually add/import each person's profile -- one at a time.

Your data is not imported in bulk.

You have begun the GEDCOMpare process, but you haven't gotten very far yet.

You have marked the good matches among your suggested matches, but you have not yet rejected the suggested matches that aren't correct matches. Once you do that, you will start seeing "ADD" buttons next to the profiles of people who aren't already in WikiTree. Until you see the ADD buttons -- and use them -- you will not be importing data into WikiTree.

You may have encountered a couple of common pitfalls in using this process:

  • Don't assume that the checkboxes at the beginning of each row will add a profile to WIkiTree. Those checkboxes only indicate that you don't expect to do anything more with a particular profile (for example, maybe you found a good existing profile in WIkitree, or maybe you imported your data to WikiTree, or maybe you determined that you don't have enough info to create a profile with). Checking that box doesn't do anything to the WikiTree database.
  • Don't hit the "REFRESH SUGGESTED MATCHES" link at the bottom of the screen unless you want to review additional suggested matches for some of the people in your GEDCOM.

NOTE: Some people decide, after uploading their first GEDCOM and seeing how GEDCOMpare processes it, to upload a different GEDCOM file. For example, they might decide to upload a much smaller file so they will have fewer suggested matches to work with. Or they might decide to go back to the software that created the file to add more dates to the data fields so that WikiTree will have more information to work with in doing the suggested-match process. Or maybe they will upload a new file that does not include a branch of the family that is already well-represented in WikiTree (and gives many suggested matches).

If you update a Gedcom with new info, does it overwrite the matches/rejections that have already been done? I'm worried about having to go through that process again if I have updates or additions to my file.

To add individuals in Wikitree, use the Chrome add-on Wikitree-x from the play store.  I'm not quite sure what the point of uploading a GEDCOM is, because it does NOT bulk add all the people in it.  If they already HAVE  a profile, it will add the data, but Wikitree-x does this too.

Just a note on the "Wikitree-ID" it's found at the top of the green section of their profile, and something like Liepmann-2

Liepmann-2 created 16 Jun 2018
