Recommended Bio?

Question

I adopted some abandoned profiles that mean something to me. Most were GEDCom imports. Several untouched for years. Some pre-1700. Working on them  raises questions.

1. Is there a sample "Best Bio"..please post a link.

2. Again, On Bio's. I have seen many that duplicate spousal information, often in text. This introduces errors. Is there a way to to present linked text from a related source?

3. Is there recommended format for retaining GEDCom import details. I have saved a few under "Acknowledgments", visually they are messy. Technically, they are often unverifiable. Please post a best practice link.

4. Projects are recommended for pre-1700, It's a good idea. How do I attach a profile I'm working on to a project?

5. It has become my practice to add a research note that I am actively working on a profile, where my research is way ahead of my data entry, with a target completion date. Should I continue to? Is there a better way? Can I put a temporary lock on?

If you use the basic sections: birth, family, death and then just tell the story (each bit fitting into its section), you can't go wrong.

Hi Peter,

In addition to the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Examples SJ Baty mentioned, I like to check out Profile of the Week Winners, Collaborative Profile of the Week, G2G entries tagged "profile pride" and Examples of Nice Profiles.

In response to your fourth question, here is a link to Help:Pre-1700_Projects. If you click on the project that fits, you will find that project information page with a link to "How to Join" the project.

For your final question on research, you can add a new headline between the biography and sources on the relevant profile called "research notes" to explain the status of your research. (See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Research_Notes.) There is no way to "lock" a profile unless it is project-protected or if it is a profile of a living or recently-deceased family member.

Sometimes I will add a personal category (such as "profile in progress") to a profile so that I can view a list of all of the profiles I'm working on. (See Wikitree Profile Slater-1764 for example.)
