Hi WikiTreers,
I'm proud to announce a little improvement to our activity feeds. This is something that has been requested by many of you.
Change summaries now include longer versions of names with birth and death dates.
For example, where yesterday you would have seen this:
Becky (Nally) Syphers edited the Birth Date for May (Storrs) Bartlett.
Today you would see this:
Becky (Nally) Syphers edited the Birth Date for Ada May (Storrs) Bartlett (1885-1959).
To see this in action, see your Contributions page or the Recent Changes feed for all of WikiTree.
This change only applies to Public and Open profiles. For member account profiles and other private profiles we are still using the "Short Name." (For more explanation of the various name displays see Help:Name_Displays or click on any profile's "Name Displays" link in the pull-down menu that starts with their WikiTree ID.)
There is one thing about this change that may cause confusion. The name and date will always appear in the activity feed item as they are now, not as they were at the time of the change. For example, if someone else comes along and changes the birth date on Storrs-2 after Becky in the example above, all the past history items would have the new birth date and someone might think that this is the date that Becky entered.
Experienced members know that you can see the details of the date changes if you click on "edited the Birth Date" but some Newts might think the date they see in the summary is what was changed.
If you spot any bugs or have questions, post here. Thanks!
Onward and upward,
Chris
