William Mercer (b. about 1800, VA, d. 27 May 1867, Ross Co., Ohio) is often included in lists of Simon Mercer's children.  Does anyone have evidence to support (or disprove) this claim (other than unsourced DAR and SAR lineage charts).  Simon lived in Cecil Co., MD; New Castle Co., DE; Ohio Co., VA (now WV); and Highland Co. Ohio.

Just a note William, all those abbreviations mean nothing to those who live outside your country. WikiTree is Worldwide.

Thanks Marion.  That's a good reminder.
DAR is Daughters of the American Revolution

SAR is Sons of the American Revolution

All states in the USA have two letter abbreviations. MD is Maryland, DE is Delaware, VA is Virginia (West Virginia officially split from Virginia in 1863).
Frank, imagine how hard it is for us in the United States, facing a form with only two blocks for the government abbreviations for states, and trying to remember which one matches one of the eight states that begin with the letter “M”!  Oh, for the old abbreviations I learned in school so long, long ago.
Pip,

I don't know a some of the state abbreviations and have to spell out the full state name to make sure I get it right. My state is Ohio or OH abbreviated. Your state had quite a snow storm recently.

Frank, we got plastered! 40 hrs without power (others longer).
I know someone who relocated from Ohio for Charlotte, North Carolina and wondered how he did as they got a foot of snow there. So far, you are ahead of Ohio in snowfall, but I think Ohio will have quite a lot more snow, especially in the snow belt suburbs of Cleveland before winter is over.

After the discussion on state abbreviations, I looked them up and will print out the list for future reference. For anyone who wants the list, try doing an internet search of    TWO LETTER STATE ABBREVIATIONS
When it snows that much (about four inches) Charlotte very nearly shuts down (I grew up there). They’re just not used to it. My brother is a pilot for American. Said there was no getting out of Douglas for a couple of days on his route.
