hit a slight brick wall

Question

I have hit a slight brick wall with a certain gentleman called Thomas Rich I have got his father as Unknown at the moment

On Ancestry it gives his parents as Samuel and Joan Rich(Nee Winsor/Windsor) Samuel and joane married in 1646 in somerset which I have found on FMP

So was wondering who Thomas' parents are who were also possibly born in Somerset, England

Also found a baptism on FMP for Thomas that gives his father's name of Charles

How old was each on Marriage,Look at original marriage record,often

the parents names are given.As travel was difficult he would be from Parish

he married in or one near by.Print out a Parish map.For that area.

Most people in that time period were Catholic.Look at Manchester Diocese

marriage records it may have more info.

No parents are given anywhere that I can see but will keep looking as they did marry in Enmore, Somerset :)

Thomas Rich and Grace Dyer seem pretty solid. Samuel and Joan/Joane are certainly plausible parents but I can't find definitive proof either.

There are children of Samuell and Joane baptised in Over Stowey (Samuell 1648, John 1650, Hugh 1653) on FreeReg but none later and no Thomas. They could have moved parishes of course but the previously located Thomas Richs don't look good. There were also a Thomas Rich and John Rich having children in Over Stowey at the same time just to confuse matters.

I think I see what's happened now ... there has been a skipping of a generation.

Thomas Rich and Grace Dyer married in 1715. She seems to have been about 19 so he was very likely 21-25, so born around 1690.

However Samuell Rich and Joane Winsor were married 7th October 1646 and so weren't born c. 1660 at all but more like 1620.

Thank you Matthew that is only thing I can think of is that Thomas was the son of Charles? and Samuel was his grandfather

Yes I was thinking on similar lines but ran out of time last night. I'll also check again. There were a lot of Richs in the area.

I have sent a message to the gentleman who has this information in his tree on familysearch and hopefully he will see what we are seeing now that I have explained why it could be that he has missed a generation :)

Hopefully I will get reply back from him soon in the meantime I have guided him to Wikitree lol

Given that the daughter was given the name Joan I would suspect the parents were Samuel and Joan, However, other records such as wills are the only way to be back this up .

That is what I am sort of thinking now Hilary which means I may have to re checked the birth dates going back as I recall a Samuel being born about 1731 and his father born about 1700

I had another look through familysearch and found that there are more children of Samuel and Joan including Robert

I do find that if I go back to profiles I do find a bit more than the time before after playing about with names dates and places :)
