Nouvelle-france

Hi,

I placed a Nouvelle-france tag on Pinet-10 and it was removed. I was told it wasn't suppose to be there that Pinet  was not eligible for the tag because she lived in Acadia Nouvelle-france not Quebec. The project site states, anyone born up to 1763. So now I'm confused. Do I put a tag on anyone from Nouvelle-france up to 1763 or only people born between 1760-63.

Thank you

Acadie and Canada were both part of New France, but the dates differ also.  Canada was the St-Lawrence valley colony, now in Québec province, Acadie was in the Maritimes, parts of it now in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI provinces.  Definitely check in with Acadians project with these locations.

Hi Melissa,

Pinet-10 is not eligible for the sticker, as she lived in Acadie, Nouvelle-France, and not Canada, Nouvelle-France.  The sticker (and the Québécois project) only cover the latter.  Acadia has a separate project, linked here.

New France covered a large portion of North America at one time, and included several territories, including Acadia, Canada, Pays d'en Haut, and Louisiana.

Thank you but just to be certain now so I don't mess up again. The date doesn't really matter? If it says Acadia Nouvelle-france then NO sticker right?
If before 1763 it is Nouvelle-France. If in Acadia Nouvelle-France before 1763, you can put an Acadia sticker. If in Canada, Nouvelle-France (Quebec) before 1763 then you can put the Canada, Nouvelle-France sticker.
Thank you Greg and Kyla. With your help and Cindy Cooper's I got it. I also checked other's I'd done and they were good so only one wrong thank goodness.
Most of Acadie got taken by the English well before 1763 so that date does not apply for them.
