Merging problems

+4 votes
Hi, I'm very needy today. I'm trying to merge two people but I can't because there are other profiles of the same person except two of the profiles are listed as brothers. It won't allow me to merge as long as the brothers are there and I can't change things that will conflict between the four profiles  like changing a d.o.b so they might be twins and then merged. There's too many of the same name brothers, father's, and sons. I'm worried about making changes to other people's profiles they manage and I'm not sure who to ask to merge and what to merge. The same problem is with a son of the same name, same person is a brother to himself. I don't know what to do or where to begin

thank you for whatever help you can offer.

Hi Melissa

This one seems like a tough one and I would not suggest any merges until the correct parents of Lévesque-1314 (L) and Lévesque-18 (R) can be determined and reliable sources can be added.

Sorry I can't be much more of a help but I think a lot of research is still needed on this family.

Not sure I'm following.  I see two pending merges with #1314:  #9 (1314's brother) and #18.  If all three are the same, they should all be merged to #9.  So instead of merging 1314 and 18, you should merge 18 and 9.  That's to avoid multi-step merges and redirect problems.  The fact that 9 and 1314 are shown as brothers should not interfere with the merge, because that's a pretty normal result of duplication.

I did not study the family in any detail because it's making my brain hurt.  smiley  As far as where to start, the general strategy is first make sure you know who's who among the similarly named relatives.  Merge the oldest generation of duplicates first (merge duplicated parents before duplicated children).  When you have multiple duplicates the target profile for all merges should be the lowest-numbered one (assuming they all have the same spelling of LNAB).

Hope that helps.

Herbert, I get a lot of “brain hurt” working in WT, especially with certain families. Not all the time, but enough to keep the aspirin close by. surprise

That's a fact, Pip!
Thank you

Yes I have initiated merges with people trying to sort this out. My brain hurt so much I had to shut down the computer for the night. It was like everywhere I looked there was a Joseph Levesque. I'm going to give it a few days for PM's to accept the merge and go from there.

I don't understand why I'm not seeing matches on creation though. Yesterday I added a person and no matches. Later on, I found there was a match and the information was the same accept on my profile it was  married name and birth name. On there's it was birth name and married name.

again thank you both for the help.

I merged Lévesque-1314 into Lévesque-9
Joseph Lévesque was born on August 27, 1719 in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade.
He is the son of Edmond (Lévesque Dit Dusablon) Lévesque and Marie-Anne Morand.
He married [Marie-Josephe-Ursule Rochereau] on January 18, 1745 in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade.
He died on January 15, 1750 in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade.

Lévesque-18 and Lévesque-9 are not the same person
Joseph Lévesque-18  was born on September 23, 1713 in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade.

His parents were Mathurin Lévesque and Marie Madeleine Morand.

He married Marie-Madeleine Rochereau on November 10, 1738 in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade.

He died on January 28, 1771 in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade.

Edmond Lévesque and Mathurin Lévesque are the sons of Pierre Lévesque and Marie Croiset

The 2  brothers married the 2 sisters ...   heart

Marie-Anne Morand and Marie Madeleine Morand  are the daughters of Pierre Morand and Marie-Madeleine Grimard

Each couple had a son baptized Joseph who married the 2 sisters ...  surprise

Marie Joseph Ursule Rochereau and Marie-Madeleine Rochereau  are the daughters of Jacques Rochereau and Marie-Madeleine Thiffault

So glad you sorted them out, E!  Well done!
