Found my connection to the GFR through Cumberland County, Nova Scotia!

Honestly, I thought that I probably wouldn't find a connection to AJ Jacobs and the Global Family Reunion at all, and especially not this early in the game. But eventually, the connections worked their way into Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, where my the majority of my daughter and husband's ancestors come from. Bingo!

Still 49 steps away, but neat!

Woo hoo! Love it!
I have found the Global Family Reunion to be a great and interesting Category, i already know my connections but first i will help tidy up what i have helped to connect and then add my Tree, I doubt if im a relative of AJ but certainly my cousins are.  ~ Eric
Hello Erin,  Please share the steps you took (in detail;-) to make the connection to A.J.?  Did you key word search the output file of Roland Arsenalts' excellent tool  desplaying those within 25? generations? And hope one of your ancestral surnames might be found?  Many thanks,

To be honest, I just had random luck. I started out by adding connections to AJ's Friedenheit line, and I eventually hit the Claflin family, who already had their immigrant ancestor on WikiTree. I decided to keep tracing the Claflins because I knew that with marriages in colonial Massachusetts, we could get more and more famous and interesting connections to families already in WikiTree. Lots of Nova Scotians also immigrated to Massachusetts in the late 1800s, so I offhandedly hoped that eventually a Nova Scotian would marry into that family, and I'd have an point to turn over to tracing connections into Nova Scotia. I just didn't expect it to be so few jumps once I found it!

So, my advice is that if Roland's list doesn't turn up anything for you right now, to take a look at the category (even if none of your ancestral names are there yet) and check some of the profiles to see if you can find any geographic connection to work from. (Roland also hopes to add more degrees to that tool, so keep checking.)

Check the WikiTree Global Family Reunion Google Group regularly, too. When someone finds a famous or notable connection, it often gets posted there. If you are connected to an American President, you're most likely in because Lianne Lavoie found a connection to Abraham Lincoln, and Lincoln is related to George Washington, who is connected to most of the other presidents. (I can't tell you exactly how to trace a path, because I know that Washington must be closer to AJ somehow, but those connections are here.)
