I am from Mississippi & I come from a very large family, where my large personality is largely frowned upon by majority of my surrounding family members, i am only seeking to learn about all of my family history maybe in an attempt to find people i may can relate too also I would like to be able to trace my ancestors as far back as possible so when i do have children i will be able to teach them where they come from.

If you go to surnamedb.com  which is a free site, and type in Channon, it is called a West Country variant of the surname Cannon. There is a fair amount of additional information also.

Surnamedb.com also has Cannon, Based on the popularity ranking out of about 49000-50000 surnames, Cannon is 486th and Channon is 12,474th.

Welcome to Wikitree.

Do you have your birth certificate, and your parents and your grandparents birth and death records (if relevant?)  Because you will need those to enter in profiles for each person on your tree.

If you are lucky your grandparents or maybe your great grandparents are already on wikitree so that you MAY get an easy connection.

Once you have your line connected to the global tree, then you can branch out and add your aunts, uncles, cousins and all the siblings and descendents of the previous generations.

This is a volunteer site. People have day jobs plus adding in their own family trees. Just be prepared to do the right research, ask the right questions and you will find a lot of satisfaction in growing your tree.

This is not a hobby that can be done in a few days. Family trees take years to build. Especially if you are starting from scratch.

You are also going to have find the records for the births and deaths and marriages and add proper sources. Using a source that says - great granddaughter Courtney wood - is NOT sufficient as a source.

We are building an accurate global tree with correct and verifiable sources

Hi Courtney, my grandmother was Nellie Mae Brock from Wilkes County, NC.  I have a lot of Brock cousins in North Carolina.  My tree is Ashley_Carroll at Ancestry under username Nancy_Holecek if you are interested.

I have run across Barber in Alabama, where it intersects with a Weddington branch in two or three places.

Findagrave.com can come in handy as some family members will link and connect different deceased relatives on that site.  You can get lucky and find a few generations of your relatives there.

As for the Warren’s go, being in the south, you will probably find that the warrens you are related to will be in Virginia around the 1700’s.  Hope that’s helpful.

I have some Barbers in Tennessee (Perry, Gibson, Lake Counties) if you can narrow your search down. Warren is also a common name in middle Tennessee.

You should join Family Search, which is a free site.

Here is a start on John Quincy Wood.  A Find A Grave record of his burial and a WW I draft record shows he was married to Mollie in 1918 when this was filled out.

"Find A Grave Index," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVVY-3D2T : 13 December 2015), John Quincy Wood, 1927; Burial, , Walthall, Mississippi, United States of America, Wood Cemetery; citing record ID 27369935, Find a Grave, http://www.findagrave.com.

"United States World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZ89-N7V : 13 March 2018), John Quincy Wood, 1917-1918; citing Walthall County, Mississippi, United States,

And here is the Find A Grave Record for Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Ard.

"Find A Grave Index," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVVY-3DL7 : 11 July 2016), Mary Elizabeth Ard Wood, 1975; Burial, , Walthall, Mississippi, United States of America, Wood Cemetery; citing record ID 27370063, Find a Grave, http://www.findagrave.com.

You can use the data from these records to help you start on your search.  Good luck on your endeavor.
