So, why is it that there is a question of his descent from him?

Howard if you look at the Pate DNA project, there is no male reporting that has traced their line to either of the 3 sons.  There is no documentation to prove which one of the sons of Thoroughgood they descend from.  So there is not going to be documentation to prove how we descend from Thoroughgood.  We just know it's one of his sons.

Well cousin Kelly, I found one site that shows Abimilech Pate's father as Charles Pate,a descendant of Thoroughgood Pate.

I am never giving up.  I look at new records all the time.  I just haven't found the right record yet.    His name is so uncommon that you will know when you find the right record to prove his parents. But  I Do think in this case we have to accept for now that Abimilec is at a brick wall and work on other family.

As the sources say, the question is where he sits in it

• Abimilec Pate is DNA typed under Thoroughgood Pate who was born in England about 1640 and died in NC in 1713. Thoroughgood Pate had three sons – Charles, John, and William. There would be several generations to get to Abimelech Pate from one of these sons..
