You may have found a list, but it isn't in any sense official. It will be a collection off the indexes as a help for fellow genealogists. There are several such collections. As examples:
FTON is the abbreviation for Frankston, but not always. In my family, it meant Flemington, but with the best intentions, a transcriber on Ancestry expanded it everywhere to Frankston.
SPOL means Sebastopol, outside Ballarat. Others have expanded it to Spotswood, a Melbourne suburb. The different last letter was disregarded.
The common bracketing of Sandhurst and Sandridge probably comes from both having the same abbreviation. Sandhurst was an earlier name for Bendigo. Sandridge was a beachside suburb, near South Melbourne, I think.
