How is Nancy Stroud related to David Humphries and who is the correct father?

Nancy Stroud appears on a census in 1850 with David Humphreys. Humphreys-2303

Some people say she was the daughter of a Peter E. Stroud and Mary Matilda Humphries.

The census seems to support that direction of thought.

How is Nancy related to David if at all? It could be she is his granddaughter.

Just a note - the birthdate on the 1850 Census is circa 1838, which is inconsistent with the birthdate on the profile (1805).
