Still looking for ancestors of John M Bruce (b 1829 in Putnam CO, Georgia).

If daughter Mollie, was born in 1851, and he married in 1859, was there an earlier wife?

His parents not named at his marriage record to Elizabeth Lee. Did not find his parents in the United States Census.

Thank you - I'm still trying to work backwards to find John M's parents. Based on coincidental evidence, I THINK his father is John Lin Bruce (see previous question below) but I still can't prove it. I appreciate your help in trying to break down this brick wall. It has had me stymied for months! I have been to the Georgia Archives and did find the marriage records for both John M and John Lin, but nothing that links the two. And I have done all the research on Family Search as well. As I read some of the stuff on Ancestry I'm thinking several others are basing their trees on my assumptions because no one has any sources quoted.  Such is life.  Again, thanks for your reply.

If you have a Y DNA or autosomal DNA test on file it would be at least possible to see what linage of the Bruce families they come from

familysearch.org has John M Bruce marriage to Elizabeth A Lee on 23 Nov 1850 which is at variance with the marriage year on the WikiTree profile. The familysearch year of the marriage was shown as being at Putnam, GA.

John M. Bruce died on 21 Jul 1882 at Atlanta, Fulton, GA and burial was at Oakland Cemetery. No photo of tombstone shown at familysearch.org

I contacted the cemetery several months ago. He is in a potter's grave.
