Half-siblings can be born within 8 months of each other

Today I got a redbox when saving the profile of Gullesen-1:

A birth date (Gullesen-1 born 11 Dec 1868) should not be within eight months of a sibling's birth date (Eliassen-70 born 14 Nov 1868) unless they are twins born within a day of each other.

These sons of Gulle Eliassen have different mothers, so the validation should perhaps take this into account.

I recommend that you change this post to Wikitree Tech and tag it with Tech and report it as a system bug or "wants improving."

Hi Shanna,

This is Wikitree Tech. I don't consider it a bug, just a suggestion for improvement. I don't see a way to flag it as such, though.
Roy, edit your original question.  You'll see a box for entering tags.  Add "improvement"

Technically half siblings can also be born on the same day!!

Assuming they have the same father and different mothers.

Also is your person connected as a half sibling or as a full sibling?

It is possible that you wont get the warning if they are connected as a half sibling with a different mother.

Bon Scott of ACDC had two children born on the same day, in the same hospital, to two different women!!
They appear as half-siblings. This is automatic when the mother is not the same. I don't think there is a manual way to connect half siblings, is there?

Hi Roy,

What you didn't quote in the status message is the headline: "Warning: Check the data".

These warnings are not meant to prevent saving changes when you know they are correct. They are just meant to help prevent you from making mistakes when a situation is very uncommon.

Cheers,

Chris

When you have several children from the same family, all baptised on the same day (quite common for Wesleyans) and it's the earliest date you have for their existence, you put that date in the birthdate field and click the "before this date" radio button. That scenario is quite common, as is two children baptised only a few months apart, where the same button is selected. In these cases, the data is not suspect. I just end up having to ignore the red flag, because I know I was rigorous.
Chris, is there no way to change the error checking to check mothers instead of fathers?

Whoever designed the disclaimer was not thinking outside the box. It is far too restrictive in it's format and not well thought out. Of course they can be born 8 months apart. They even could be born on the same day.
