One Name Studies Project: request your 2019 Name Study here! [DO NOT USE] [closed]

5.4k views

Would you like to start a Name Study for a surname in 2019?  Sign up below (answer, don't comment) and Ros will create the page for you and add you as the manager.  If you do not already have it, you will be awarded the One Name Studies Project Member badge.

Check here: is there one for your name already?

The three requirements are:
1) You have been on WikiTree for 30 days
2) You have signed the Honor Code
3) You have made 100 or more contributions

Read more about the project here:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Name_Studies

Please note when requesting redirects to variants: There can only be three spellings of the surname per Study, and one of them must be the name itself (such as Haywood, Heywood, and Haywud for the Haywood Name Study).  This limit is posed due to limitations of the creation form plus lack of manpower.

Please see the original question above your comment, where it says

"Remember to hit 'ANSWER', not 'comment', nor 'reply'"

and please transfer your request to an Answer.  I am also currently in correspondence with the manager of a Study which may mean you cannot have the McKay Name Study.

I’ve got a bunch of Scotland McKays. My ggrandmother was a McKay
Ros,

Depending on your answer to my comment, I will answer the question. There is a Harrington Name Study, but the only thing in it is a sub-category, Cork, Harrington Name Study, which is for Harrington’s from County Cork, Ireland. I’d like to have a ONS for English Harrington’s. Should I just use the existing Harrington ONS instead of creating a sub-category  ONS called English Harrington Name Study?  I’m leaning toward using the existing study. No point in having a category that is too specific. Also, is there  anyone currently hosting the Harrington ONS? If not, I’ll do it. Thanks.

The surname Taylor , Thank you .

Hello Dawn

There is already a Taylor Name Study at:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Taylor_Name_Study
and you need to contact its profile manager if you want to join it. smiley

If you would like another Name Study, I'm afraid you will have to wait until at least 22 March (when you will have been here 30 days).  And if you do want another - please remember to click on 'answer' and not 'comment'. smiley

Hi!

I would love to start a one name project for the surname Blackwelder (Schwarzwelter).

Taylor

Would you mind repeating your request as an ANSWER, rather than a comment, like it says in the question above, please? smiley

Hi Ros,

Would very much like to start a One Study of Lacey with the variant of Lacy.

I have many early New Kent County Virginia census and land rent records that record the name as Lacey. Somewhere down the the line the E was dropped. The spelling of Lacey resumes again in the Watauga Settlement in the State of Franklin. A couple of my early profiles have book links that enclude Thomas Lacy I and William Lacy, presumably brothers.

There are a number of Wikitree volunteers here that will likely participate.

There are also a few unmerged duplicate profiles with hesitant managers who need more proof before merging.

Looking forward to see where this goes.

Thank you,

Tony
by T Lacey G2G6 Mach 3 (34.2k points)

I have created the Lacey Name Study at
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Lacey_Name_Study

You can reach the companion category page by clicking on the phrase 'Lacey Name Study' just under the coloured box.

I am still listed as the profile manager; I do not have your email address to put you on the Trusted List.  So that you avoid spam, do not put it on this forum.  Instead, send me a Trusted List request from your Study; then I will have your address and can complete the creation.

Note: Tony needs the ONS badge plus redirects to Lacey and Lacy

Thank you

Thank you for your PM.  I have set you up as manager. smiley

Apologies if there seemed to be a delay - don't forget that
a) I am in a different time zone to you
b) I have a life outside WikiTree (amazing, I know ha ha)

Since you asked how to start, may I suggest you look at the One Name Study profile page here
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Name_Studies#Project_page

which gives you some ideas.

Ha ha, I didn't even consider time zone as a factor. You have a life outside of Wikitree? Guess I need to get me one of those. Lol.

Thank you for setting up the page, Ros.

I would be very much interested in this, as I have been researching the Saddlemire family for many years now.

The problem I have is there are more than three variations of the name. Is there a way to account for all the variations?

The three most common variations are Saddlemire, Saddlemyer, and Sadlemeyer.

Less common spellings are Saddlemeyer, Sadelmyer, and Sadlemire.

All of these family names are descended from the same person: Johanne Sedelmyer (there’s another spelling!)

Would it be better to try and do a one name project with the common spellings, or turn this into a bigger project that includes all variations? I’m not sure the best way to do this.

Thanks very much!
by Alex Stronach G2G6 Pilot (363k points)
My suggestion would be to do a Saddlemire Name Study, with variants Saddlemire, Saddlemyer, and Sadlemeyer (one of the variant tags you use has to be the name in the ONS itself.  That is the limitation of the form; three tags only, I'm afraid.)

The freespace page itself is not where you put all your research.  You can do separate FSPs and link them to the main one.  The category page for the ONS lists the profiles upon which you have put the ONS category, and can hold many.

Take a look at my Stanton Name Study.
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Stanton_Name_Study

You will see I have linked freespace pages on end of line Stantons, heraldry, migration, and Cornwall.  The category page not only has profiles, but also geographic locations:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Stanton_Name_Study

A Name Study should be sufficient for your needs.  It can grow as much as you want.
Perfect, sounds good. I’ll do a ONS for Saddlemire, the most common spelling.

I have created the Saddlemire Name Study at:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Saddlemire_Name_Study

You can reach the companion category page by clicking on the phrase 'Saddlemire Name Study' just under the coloured box.

I am still listed as the profile manager; I do not have your email address to put you on the Trusted List.  So that you avoid spam, do not put it on this forum.  Instead, send me a Trusted List request from your Study; then I will have your address and can complete the creation.

Note: Alex needs the ONS badge plus redirects to Saddlemire, Saddlemyer, and Sadlemire

Thanks for the TL request.  I have set you up as manager. smiley

Ros -

Looks like you have found someone to lead a one name study for the surname  Charbonneau for 2019. This will bring me some new challenges and perhaps everyone will discover threads that connect us even more.

Sounds like it will be a great learning adventure. Thanks

Hi

I am afraid I cannot create a Name Study for you, as you have not fulfilled the requirements stated in the question above.  You have only been here just over a week, and you need to be here at least 30 days.

I would be delighted to see a return request when you have become eligible.

However, I cannot create a Name Study for you just yet - if you re-read the question above, one of the requirements is that you need to have been on WikiTree for at least 30 days.

I would like to start a One-Name Study for the surname, Stuhlfaut or Stuhlfauth. It's an uncommon name in North America. It originated in the Pfalz region of Germany, and it has its earliest roots in Berne, Switzerland. Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for requesting a Name Study.  However, if you look at the question at the top of the page, you will see that there are certain requirements you need to fulfil - two of which are that you need to have been on WikiTree for at least 30 days (you only joined yesterday) and you need to have made at least 100 contributions (you have made 6).

I would be delighted to see a return request when you have fulfilled the requirements. smiley
