One Name Studies Project: request your 2019 Name Study here!

+26 votes
3k views

Would you like to start a Name Study for a surname in 2019?  Sign up below (answer, don't comment) and Ros will create the page for you and add you as the manager.  If you do not already have it, you will be awarded the One Name Studies Project Member badge.

Check here: is there one for your name already?

The three requirements are:
1) You have been on WikiTree for 30 days
2) You have signed the Honor Code
3) You have made 100 or more contributions

Read more about the project here:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Name_Studies

Please note when requesting redirects to variants: There can only be three spellings of the surname per Study, and one of them must be the name itself (such as Haywood, Heywood, and Haywud for the Haywood Name Study).  This limit is posed due to limitations of the creation form plus lack of manpower.

Please see the original question above your comment, where it says

"Remember to hit 'ANSWER', not 'comment', nor 'reply'"

and please transfer your request to an Answer.  I am also currently in correspondence with the manager of a Study which may mean you cannot have the McKay Name Study.

I’ve got a bunch of Scotland McKays. My ggrandmother was a McKay
Ros,

Depending on your answer to my comment, I will answer the question. There is a Harrington Name Study, but the only thing in it is a sub-category, Cork, Harrington Name Study, which is for Harrington’s from County Cork, Ireland. I’d like to have a ONS for English Harrington’s. Should I just use the existing Harrington ONS instead of creating a sub-category  ONS called English Harrington Name Study?  I’m leaning toward using the existing study. No point in having a category that is too specific. Also, is there  anyone currently hosting the Harrington ONS? If not, I’ll do it. Thanks.

The surname Taylor , Thank you .

Hello Dawn

There is already a Taylor Name Study at:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Taylor_Name_Study
and you need to contact its profile manager if you want to join it. smiley

If you would like another Name Study, I'm afraid you will have to wait until at least 22 March (when you will have been here 30 days).  And if you do want another - please remember to click on 'answer' and not 'comment'. smiley

Hi!

I would love to start a one name project for the surname Blackwelder (Schwarzwelter).

Taylor

Would you mind repeating your request as an ANSWER, rather than a comment, like it says in the question above, please? smiley

Hello Ros,

I would like to start a One Name Study for the surname D'Andrea.

I also sent you a PM about possibly "adopting" the Guzzetta ONS as it looks to be leaderless and has no free space page.

I meet the listed requirements to participate in the ONS project:

1) You have been on WikiTree for 30 days - Yes, Joined up on the 8th of August 2018.
2) You have signed the Honor Code - Yes, Signed the day I joined.
3) You have made 100 or more contributions - Yes - Current contributions as of this moment - 14,163 with 1,554 for the current month of April.

Please let me know if you require anything further from me.

Thank's - Mike G.

by Mike Guzzetta G2G6 (9.6k points)

I have created the D'Andrea Name Study at:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:D'Andrea_Name_Study

You can reach the companion category page by clicking on the phrase 'D'Andrea Name Study' among the categories at the foot of the page. This is a list of all the profiles you include in your Study.

I have set you as manager. smiley

I have replied to your email privately; I am afraid the Guzzetta Name Study is not available for adoption.

Note to self: Mike needs the ONS badge plus redirect to D'Andrea

Thank You Ros.

I would like to make a Jenks one name project including Jenckes, JInks, and other assorted variations.
There are already pages for prominent early US settlers with that name, but the coverage of their descendants is spotty.
I have a book published 1952 that has been in my family for 60 years that is my starting point. My mothers grandmother was a Jenks, and family lore has it that two of her sisters helped on the book. I grew up on the stories of the contributions to early industry in New England, and to the political involvement.

Thank you
by Suzane Oliver G2G Crew (540 points)

I have created the Jenks Name Study at:

You can reach the companion category page by clicking on the phrase 'Jenks Name Study' among the categories at the foot of the page. This is a list of all the profiles you include in your Study.

I am still listed as the profile manager; I do not have your email address to put you on the Trusted List.  So that you avoid spam, do not put it on this forum.  Instead, send me a Trusted List request from your Study; then I will have your address and can complete the creation.

Note to self: Suzane needs the ONS badge plus redirects to Jenks, Jenckes, and Jinks

Thank you for your message.  I have now set you up as manager. smiley

I would like to initiate a "Wierling" One Name Project. An alternate form of spelling in the records is also Wierlinck. They appear to originate from the Münsterland region in Westphalia.

gday Ros,

I'm now at the point where a BLECKLY one name study seems like a good way to go rather than clutter up the individual profiles with photos of memorabilia. There are several variations Bleckley Blackly Blackley & Blakey being the most prominent misspellings

ooroo [[Bleckly-1|Rob Bleckly]]

by Rob Bleckly G2G2 (2.4k points)

I have created the Bleckly Name Study at:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Bleckly_Name_Study

You can reach the companion category page by clicking on the phrase 'Bleckly Name Study' among the categories at the foot of the page.

Please note: there is an orphaned Blockley Name Study that is quite well-developed here
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Blockley_Name_Study

Would you be interested in taking it on?  No worries if not.

Note to self: Rob needs the ONS badge plus redirects to Bleckly, Bleckley, and Blackly

I had a look a the Blockley Study before I sent the first request and even though we originate in the same area at the same time there are no common individuals. For some obscure linguistic reason the 'e' in Bleckly is only exchanged for an 'a' never an 'o' in all the variations I've found. We do get extra 'e's and 'a's  inserted but again not 'o's

So at this stage, with no connection between Blockley and Bleckly no.

Thanks for replying.  Please remove your email address from your comment so as to avoid spammers.

I am interested in starting a one name study for the name Clawson. There are many different ways to spell the name, including Closson. There is one for Floss on now but specifically a George Closson.

Do I have to join that study of can I start a one name study for all the Clawson/Closson variants?

Terri

There is already a Closson Name Study:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Closson_Name_Study
but the manager hasn't been on WT since last September.  In a few months' time (if she doesn't return), you will be able to take it over if you want.

I could probably set you up with a Clawson Name Study, as long as you didn't have Closson as one of your variants.  Would you like to do that?
Yes, Ros, I would like to do that. Now I have to look at the other studies to figure out what I need to do to get started.

I would like to create a one name study for the relatively rare surname of Pedlow, with variants Pedloe and Pedlowe. I have been studying all branches of this family around the world for the past 49 years and have lots of data and trees to share on Pedlows in Ireland, England, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.  I have also traced written references to the surname back to 1188 in the Norman-controlled part of Ireland, but the presumed origin is France, where the name was (and still is) Piedeloup (wolf's paw). In the 1188 document the name was already spelled Pedelow, thus quite close to the modern spelling.

Ok, thank you!
