I don't know which surname to use

+2 votes

Elizabeth Mullaney is my mother's great grandmother. There has been a lot of right and wrong information about her. Eric McVan insisted that she is not the daughter of Robert McVan . The problem is she is the daughter of Robert and Alice Byrnes/Burns but Roberts name is written differently in nearly every document. McVain, McVann, McVane, McAvan, maybe even McEvan. So which name should I use? I have yet to find a birth certificate for Elizabeth. I have a death certificate that reads McVain and a marriage certificate that looks like McNamm. All of these names are actual surnames.

Thank you.

I would leave her LNAB as is for now. You can add alternate spellings in other last names, or, add a Research Notes section in the bio and add all the info you gather until you feel you have the correct one.
