Hi everyone!
With the start of the new year, we're making some changes to the Photo of the Week Project. Or more accurately, we're replacing it with 52 Photos sharing challenge.
A bit of background: When we first started the Family History Photo of the Week project many years ago, the idea was to get people to share photos they'd uploaded. Originally this was done in a Google+ Community. Voting was added in to make it more fun. So each week members would share photos and then be able to vote on the Photo of the Week.
Over time, this evolved from the Google+ Community to various versions using G2G, Facebook and other social media channels. We kept tweaking to try and find the right formula.
While there were still a few enthusiastic members who shared photos in G2G, the Photo of the Week project became mostly about voting and not so much about sharing until it essentially became me gathering photos each week for people to vote on. :)
We did that for awhile but we really wanted to get back to focusing on sharing not voting so the project went on hiatus a bit until we could figure out what to do.
Project members have made some great suggestions like themes or weekly challenges. After seeing how great Robynne's 52 Ancestors challenge went last year, we decided to continue doing that and also to create "52 Photos" to encourage members to share great photos each week.
So if you are a member of the Photo of the Week Project, we hope that you will eagerly join us in this transition and share photos in the challenge each week!
