How do I turn a family document into a source

I have a translation (from Welsh) of a handwritten biography written by my great grandfather. It contains specific details of his family and also mentions others (non relatives) he knew in Caernarvon in the mid 1800’s.

How do I cite this as a source in the profiles of those mentioned?

This would be considered second-hand information, or possibly in the format of a family bible/papers. So you would record it similar to the following:

Schmoe, Joe. Personal journal, [dd mm yyyy], as translated by [person]. Journal/Translation in the possession of [person].

See Help:Sources for more information.

I would be inclined to create a PDF showing the original document along with the translation, explanation of its origins, and upload it to Wikitree. Then you can link to the file in the source sections of the relevant profiles.

I am actually quite jealous right now. I wish one of my own ancestors had done the same thing.

I always get a little jealous of people with family documents as well, Bill. Just glad to hear I'm not the only one, lol! I'm lucky for the few old photos I have!
