Does anyone know if Meade A. Smith is related to William S. Smith? i am confused.

Question

Meade A. and William S. Smith both came from Grandville Co. N.C. and settled in Wythe and Smyth Co's.VA. does anyone know how they are related? if they are. I am confused to say the least now. I was told that they were Brother's but I cannot find anything stating this. so this means I can't add any sourses, just history. and not very much of that either. William had a son Jacob M Smith born in 1858 in VA. mead is living next door. so any help would be gladly taken.
