Challenge of the week: Improve orphaned profiles [closed]

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge of the week?

Once again, Aleš has come up with something to help us work together on a category of profiles that need our help. This time it's "orphans," i.e. profiles without Profile Managers.

Here is the list of orphaned profiles that could use some TLC.

Will you join us?

Every time you record a status update it will earn you a point. The member with the most points at 11:59pm EDT on Sunday night will get the Winner badge this week and the bragging rights. But we'll all benefit from a neater, cleaner shared tree.

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

Sorry I was late. My email was acting up.

I would suggest going to your profile and in the drop-down under your Wiki-ID run "Orphaned Family" to find YOUR family that you might want to adopt. (sorry if that was confusing)

It is difficult to read the text on different colored backgrounds.
Hi, Can someone please help me edit WikiTree I.D.:  Esparza-175, in regards to the 845 Direct Usage of Base Templates?

I read the description of error still don't understand what I'm suppose to do.

Thank you kindly.

Problem is with template

{{Project Box
| image = Paula_s_Sources-136.jpg
| category = Remember the Alamo Project
| description = Antonio Tomas Sesario's brother, [[Esparza-79|Gregorio]] was '''''Killed In Action''''' at the [[:Category: The Alamo|Battle of the Alamo]].
| project = Remember the Alamo
}}

It directly uses base https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Docs:Template_Project_Box that sbould be only used in other project box templates https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Database_Errors_Definition_Templates/Project_box

According to project.https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Remember_the_Alamo , they use {{US Southern Colonist}} template, but that information could be out of date. You should check with the project about correct action.

I'm in - always glad to improve orphans.

Added - glad I'm not in this for the numbers. The orphans I'm seeing really need some TLC.

I've been working on Michiganders who mostly have orphaned accounts for the Sourcerers challenge already   - so they weren't counted for this - but I'm contributing. laugh

This is really really hard.  How do you determine which John Smith, son of John Smith, married to Mary Smith is intended with no further clues?  I researched seven different orphans before finding one I was able to help.

You can start with a 511 Unique Name Suggestion in the 0000 - 0000 bucket (no dates) [they will also be in the 13X suggestions] and try to find their tree (the unique name helps find the tree and sources).  Then pull down the suggestions for that profile, and then add dates to all their connected orphan profiles.  The A's and B's in the 511 suggestions (no dates) have been worked on, you might want to pick a profile from names starting with C's or after.
Thanks for the suggestion.  As I said, I found two and after many hours have made the corrections, researched the couple (lightly), added sources and created full biographies for each.  They still need more work on their children, but they did get a little TLC.  There were enough intriguing hints that someone might have fun discovering why they went from prosperous farmers with their own land to day laborers between 1880 and 1900 . . . after the shocking economic times of post-Civil War in Kansas and Illinois.

Great job everyone in the edits for this week's challenge!

Remember when editing USA/United States in birth/death locations before 1776  was not a county.

and for Virginia ...

Virginia was called "Colony of Virginia"

Please refer to the INFO Column on suggestions, please remember ->  Colony of Virginia.

Thank you kindly.

Well I did that just recently here - in trying to find information on a Swan Ancestor I came across this batch of Swans in Connecticut and i adopted one and that led to the creation of a whole bunch of that line - working on sourcing them now as a matter of fact Rowley and Stonington area they all settled in - if anyone wants to jump in - I could use some help - the one I adopted was Hurlburt Swan - born about 1773 in Stonington
