52 Photos Week 2: Generations

1.0k views

It's week 2 of the 52 Photos Challenge!

To participate, follow the tag 52_photos. Every week we'll post a prompt in G2G like this one with a theme. There will be a link to a free-space profile for collecting the photos together (like this one). You should upload or add your photo to that page. See 52 Photos for help on this.

Themes will be broad and open-ended so that you can interpret it in a way that is meaningful to you.

If you use a social network (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) please share the photo there as well, using #52photos and #wikitree. This can be a great way to involve more family members. If you use a blog, include a link to your blog post in your answer below so we can all read it.

For fun, there will be three badges available:

  • 13 in 13 (posting 13 photos for 13 weeks consecutively)
  • 26 in 26 (posting 26 consecutively)
  • 52 in 52 (posting all 52 consecutively)

The first theme for 52 photos is: GENERATIONS.

Remember, to participate you'll need to add your photo to the free-space page linked below, i.e. add Space:52_Photos_Week_2_Generations on the photo edit page.  You can share them in this G2G post as well but they need to be on the free-space page to be counted. See 52 Photos for more information.

Here's a wedding photo for my maternal great grandparents (English family) - George Eve and Ethel Partridge who married in West Ham, London in 1916. It's the fashions I find fascinating.

Here's my tweet about it. Oh, and it's four generations of Eves and Partidges :-)

I have an easy one to pick of three generations at my sister's second wedding. This is myself, my grandmother Estelle Flamer, my sister Christine Flamer McKee, and mother, Arlene Eastman Flamer.

500px-52_Photos_Week_2_Generations.jpg

but I am searching for the one we did in front of my great-grandmother's portrait with my grandmother, my mother, myself, and my daughter. Not quite the matrilineal line since this was my father's mother and his father's mother. My photos are't completely organized.

I posted this picture of my grandfather and his family here: https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/52_Photos_Week_2_Generations-1.  With the exception of his parents and the oldest brother shown in the photo, all were first generation Americans.
by K. Anonymous G2G6 Pilot (145k points)
Thank you for sharing this photo. They are a beautiful family. Am I correct in counting nine children? My husband comes from a family of nine children -- not common today.
Thanks so much!  My grandfather was actually the youngest of twelve-his oldest brother remained in Sweden, and he had two older sisters that passed away in infancy.

Just a simple Copy and Paste!!  SHEESH!! Is that all I needed to do? OMG - I am so embarrassed!!

Anyway, this is my family group from my wedding in Auckland New Zealand in October 2000. One of the last Generational Photos that I have that includes ALL of my family.

There are only 3 generations in this photo - my parents and their siblings, myself and my husband, my brother-in-law and my sister and of course the grandchildren - none of whom have wikitree profiles yet - despite them all now being well over the age of 13. They ARE still alive so their profiles would be unlisted.

As of today, the only person in this photo who has died is my father. He died in 2016.

Great photo! Was this a special occasion -- everyone seems to be dressed up and two of the women are holding flowers? Thanks for sharing.
Robin - That was my wedding.

The dark haired lady at the back holding flowers is me!! LOL

I had just been married. The man standing next to me on MY right (your left)  is my husband of (at that time) less than 1 hour. Now he is my husband of 18 years!!  LOL
How time flies! Congratulations then and now.

This photo shows three generations of the Arthur Dodge family. It was taken in 1957. There are  my grandparents, Arthur and Edna Dodge. The next generation are my parents James and Betty Dodge and my Aunt Lois Warren. The third generation are the children of Lois, Raymond (standing in the far back) and Elaine; the children of John Sumner Dodge (not shown), Ruth Ann (on the far right) and Johnny (standing in front on the left) ; and the children of James and Betty, Robin (me), Kim, and Jimmy (being held by Betty).

The picture I chose was taken the weekend of July 13-14, 1996 in Groton, Connecticut at the entrance to the USS Nautilus Submarine. My Grandmother Leola Cox, me, my mom, and my two kids. The wind is from Hurricane Bertha which was moving in to New England that weekend. I did get a few looks wearing my Lady Vols t-shirt in Connecticut Huskies territory.

Here is a family portrait of 4 generations, taken in 1899, probably in Concordia, Kansas. The older, distinguished-looking gentleman on the left is Rev. Peter Winebrenner, of Noble Co., Indiana, my great-great grandfather. Clockwise is my great-grandmother, his daughter, Rachel (Winebrenner) Stoner. Clockwise form her is her daughter, my great aunt, Ella (Stoner) Secrist, and lastly, her daughter Mae, my cousin once removed, who grew up and married Vern Steadman. Peter made a trip to Kansas to visit his family in June of this year.

This photo shows my father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Richard, Matthew Jr and Matthew Sr Maher.

Great Grandpa was an avid sailor, Grandpa was a policeman and died in an accident 5 years after this photo was taken. My father and his parents lived above a boathouse when they were first married which is how I know where this photo was taken.
