I am a decendant of Robert Reed (Rud, on this census). This family lived in Scioto Co Ohio in 1860. They were found on the US Fed census of South Beaver, PA in 1850. Apparently the oldest daughter and son were born in the 1840's in Ohio. At this point, I have been unable to connect this family to any of the well researched Reed families that lived in Ohio in the early 1800's. I have been researching this family for years and I believe I was the first person to identify the "Rud" family on the 1870 census on Ancestry.com. The 'u' in the name "Rud" was actually a "ee" written with very tight loops! I beieve that the oldest son, John, made his way to Iowa around 1850 and settled in Buchanen Co. The rest of the family appeared to migrate to Estill Co, Kentucky for a couple of generations until the family dispersed to Iowa, Missouri and Oklahoma in the 1890's. Robert Reed, aged 17 or 18 on this census moved to Iowa to apparently join his oldest brother early after the turn of the century in 1900. He left his wife (Amanda Emilene Case) and several of his children in Kentucky. The Samuel Reed remains a mystery as to his origin, other than being born in 1809 in PA. This fact shows up the the "Roger's Family Book", located at the Estill Co, KY genealogy and historical society.
