Who was Captain Holmes who married Susan/Susanna in Pennsylvania before 1810?

My 2nd Great Grandmother, Matilda Wells, said that her parents were George Wells, of Springfield, Chester, Pennsylvania, and Susan, the widow of Captain Holmes. I believe that George Wells was living in Ridley Twp, Delaware County, Pennsylvania at the time of his marriage to Susan. I am trying to find Susan's maiden name and the name of her first husband, Captain Holmes.

This record does not match your description. However, it is the only record I can find that remotely matches. Perhaps there is a connection. I'm posting this for you, just in case it may give you a hint on where to search. There are also 2 records indicating A. Burling, b 1780, marrying Holmes in PA in 1813.

Name: Capt. CHolmes

Marriage Year: 1813
Marriage Place: New York
Spouse: Ann Burling
Full Text: Burling,Ann,m.Capt.C.Holmes in New York (CC.Sept.8,1813)
Source information: Index of Marriages in Massachusetts Centinel and Columbian Centinel 1784 to 1840, page 559

Thank you for your comment. About a month ago my cousin found the information we were looking for on Susan Holmes. She was first married to Thomas Holmes, abt 1803. He was a sea captain, as we had known, who was living in Ridley Twp, Delaware, Pennsylvania on 11 September 1804 when he wrote  his will mentioning Susan. We are 99% sure that he is her husband based on everything we have found on them.

At one time my cousin thought that George had married a woman named Elizabeth AFTER Susan died, but decided that they were two different persons named George. There are several, so it is confusing. I would be interested in finding out more about your George and Elizabeth--did they have any children, etc?
