So,why is Wikitree denying this man's ancestors are accurate?

Can you name the documents and their location? Can these documents be viewed online?
And... we might need a definition of “official.” Even official documents can contain errors.
That may be true about official documents containing errors. However, Wikitree is denying that they exist. That is my point.
Howard, you still haven't named these documents or where they exist. Just saying it doesn't make it so. Official documents are those created at the time of the event.

I’m not so sure that WikiTree ever denies that a source exists. However WikiTree may weigh sources as to how valid they may be.

Howard, it would help if you follow Deb’s suggestion and list those sources here so we can see what you are talking about. Otherwise, we’d have no way to validate what you are saying.

I just added two of the sources. Two of the sources are listed already,no need to add them.

Ahh, but, Pip, he didn't say sources, he said official documents. There is a very big difference. All official documents are sources, not all sources are official documents. wink

If a source is four hundred years old,how can Wikitree arbitrarily say that they are not accurate? I
Howard, you still haven't answered my question. Which documents are you referring to? Also, a fairy tale written 400 years ago is still a fairy tale. Without knowing the source you are referring to, it is impossible to judge it's value or credibility.

Ok, I see what you’re saying. It will be for others to evaluate the documentary evidence as that is not my expertise that far back.

Btw: even 400 year old official documents can have errors. I’m not saying the one you posted has errors. I’m just saying that this is so.

Not to mention, based on the relationship finder, Deb is my distant cousin. How do I prove that, except with her help? Good afternoon cousin,Deb.
Why don't you just text me, cousin Deb? I will send you all the sources that I find. Then you can read them and decide.
Howard, we're 14th cousins. A lot closer than most folks on here!
That is based on Wikitree, not official documents. The relationship finder has me related to a majority of the people on Wikitree today.
Since you are my very distant cousin, you should not have a problem with texting me. My cellphone number is 251-264-1502. I live in Mobile, Alabama.

Sharing information is what WikiTree is all about. There really isn't a need for private texting to share source documents. If you have valid sources to prove parentage or anything else about an individual, you should bring it to the attention of the profile manager. You can do that by posting a comment on the profile or messaging the manager.

Samuel Jordan isn't related to me and isn't really within any of my current areas of interest so you would be much better off sharing your information here in G2G or on the profile. smiley

I will try to share what I find. I use my cell phone to get online and do my research. I don't have the memory space to download too much information. Therefore, I can't share it with anyone.
Hi, Howard,

I know a lot of members use their mobile devices to WikiTree. I'm not sure what you mean by downloading information. Citing doesn't require downloading. If the information is available online, a link is sufficient. If it is a book or other publication, giving the title, author, publisher, publication date, volume, and page number is all we need. If it is, as you say, an official document, the type of document (birth certificate, baptismal record, etc.) and the location where one might view or obtain a copy would work. None of that requires downloading data.
Howard, I just reviewed the profile and find no source or official document listed that supports Samuel being son of Silas.

Could you please clarify what source, exactly, supports these origins?
