If you haven't found anything on WikiTree, the next place to look is FamilySearch.org (free). National Census records are also a great place to look. There may be genealogy groups in the area of interest.
Since some of these records are withheld for a lifetime, its best to start with a deceased ancestor. The further back you can go in recent time, say a great great grand-parent, the more likely you are to find a record.
Be forewarned. The research takes alot more time than most of us ever would have imagined.
Also, DNA testing for ancestry is but one source. It can provide hints, but should not be considered a definite source without direct comparison.
