Scotland Jacobite rising of 1715
Has anyone done any research on where captive / prisoners Robert Anderson and Charles Anderson on the Preston prison roster? I am trying to figure out where they were actually from in Scotland. Possible ancestor of David Anderson d. 1781, Louisa Co. VA and married Judith. Scotland country of origin confirmed by FTDNA Big Y 500. and ScotlandDNA Y test marker S695.

One of my ancestors who was at Preston (Ludovic Grant) was imprisoned in Lancashire and then sent to South Carolina. I found his record and the page he is on gave his occupation and home parish.  I don't think there's an index, you just have to scroll through but there are images of the records here:  freepages.rootsweb.com/~tornabene/genealogy/index4.htm

If that link doesn't work go to rootsweb from Ancestry and search for "Jacobites in Prison 1715"  and I think it should come up.

There is also David Dobson's book  "Directory of Scots Banished to the American Plantations"  Genealogical Publishing Co, 1984 so if your ancestor was at Preston and was sent to America he should be in there.

Aye David, whilst I have not researched Charles or Robert Anderson whom are on the Preston prison roster, you should note the following.

Charles Anderson' entry reads:

"FS Donaldson Cha. Anderson Charles Lowgie Aberdeen Labourer 151 Preston"
The 'Home Parish' "Lowgie" is now written as Logie and I would suggest that you read this link for further information and a map of the location of Logie in Aberdeenshire (Aberdeen):

"Lowgie or_Logie"

Robert Anderson' entry reads:
"EA Anderson Robt. Anderson Robert Longiemar Aberdeen Labourer 139 Preston"
The 'Home Parish' "Longiemar" is now written as Longmuir and I would suggest that you read this link for further information and a map of the location of Longmuir in Aberdeenshire (Aberdeen):

"Longiemar_or_Longmuir"

Furthermore, it should be noted that the entry for Donald Anderson contains an error:
"Anderson Donald LitlDunkell Perth Labourer 201Preston"
It should read as follows:
"Anderson Donald Little Dunkeld Perth Labourer 201 Preston"

If you have ancestors that you wish to research their resident address, then this link is another to use in your research:

Good health, Bill
