The Scan-a-Thon is underway!

We decided to have a G2G post each day where you  can check  in, let us know what you are doing, if you are working on  a specific project, share your favorite photos you've uploaded, etc

Well, I am still adding photos I've already scanned - I may not get to any new scanning, in fact! Lots already here. I'm getting used to the WIKI interface, too. Very exciting.

Good morning! I have finally begun to upload some things this morning. Yesterday was a bust, but ever onward!

Right now I'm continuing to look through these trays of slides. I hope I will be able to get them to scan later with my mom's scanner because I already have 11 out of 22 just from this one tray

Well I did all the photos I could find from my family yesterday.

So now I am going to do some photos from my husbands family today....  Let's see how well that works...

I’m pretty shot out for material to scan. Still, there are a few more if I create the profiles for them. My goal was 200, but I’m not so sure I’ll get there.

It’s been lots of fun. The Sweepers are yakking and I love it. I see you’ve included several different people in the videos that I hadn’t met before. That was excellent!

I've spent about half of my time creating profiles so I have something to upload to. Pleasantville, Iowa will be well-represented, at least from around 1900, by the time I'm done!

Not a lot of photo's to scan when owning a camera in our family started in the late '50.. Especcially photographs for open or public profiles are scarce. Most documents are online in the Netherlands so they can't be uploaded for this project so that leaves the "bidprentjes" (if they're not on line also) and other personal records.

Good morning!!

I'm organizing old receipts by date for my ancestors and planning on making some freespace pages for them! I scanned them a while back, but never really got around to organizing or uploading them, now is my chance!

Just wanted to say that I think we're doing important work this weekend, preserving images that might otherwise be stored away never to be seen. Even a few photos adds to the historical record of a time and place. A big thank you to everyone participating.

Still about 200 Cemetery Photos to sort through, Find in the cemetery database so I can estimate date of birth then create profiles for.

Then there is certificates and old photos to do after that.

I call it a day. Have done most of the family announcements  and funeral cards (=bidprentjes) out of my mothers shoebox. May look a bit further tomorrow

Nearing the end of Day 2 and I’m bushed. Just short of my goal of 200. I’ll get them tonight and then get some rest. Boy, am I tired!!!

Is it possible to replace an image with a better version of the same image? One of my gravestone uploads showed up sideways (although the "original image" is upright), and after adding the source information and other details) I'd like to simply upload a new version in its place, rather than create a whole new image page.

Sorry that I didn't do any yesterday but since Wednesday night I had developed bronchitis and sinus also again. It is worse then before New Years. I took the last antibiotic then on New Years Day. So this time my sister took me to the walk in clinic and he prescribed a stronger antibiotic, steroid and steroid shot yesterday, cough pills in form of pearls, and nasal spray. Since Friday I was cough all the time and blowing stuff out of nose all the time. I just didn't feel like participating but I am going to do it today up till 8:00 Monday if I feel like it. hopeful.

What I have enjoyed most is that by watching the photo feed is that history comes to life, the history of ancestors, "real people", and not just "general people" you read about in a book.

I've seen wedding and children photos of different places and decades and seen how the dressing changed, I've seen the inside of a cabin with what I think is a gold panning pan hanging on the wall, I've seen settlers homesteads and can get an understanding of how my own family emigrants might have had it even though I don't have any personal photos from their homes.

I have also looked through my own family pictures, something I have not done for a long time and remembered happy times with family now long passed and wondered about the lives of those before them that I never got to know.

So I guess I just really would like to say Thank You for making this Scan-a-Thon happen.
